Best advice I have heard or read is , prep what you eat and eat what you prep. That way you don't spend money on items you may never eat, and if you date and organize your items by best buy dates, you should be using the ones that "expire" first. I suggest those cans of beef, you use one to make some kind of meal and see if in fact your family likes it or will eat it... if you really don't like it, I know they are expensive, you could put that money into other items you will eat.

I love your pantry! Great job. You have a nice variety to choose from to feed your family. As for the powdered milk, I don't know if you have tried it but you can make your own powdered coffee creamer using it. Just a little tip I'm throwing out to you. 😁 Congratulations on getting a deer!!! My grandchildren love mac & cheese. Like you, they prefer the squeeze cheese type. I started buying the Velveeta squeeze packets at Dollar Tree. I cook up some elbow macaroni and add the cheese. Thank you so much for the tour. It definitely gave me some ideas on what to look for the next time I am in the store. Great deal on the batteries!!

We're the oddballs because of the 24/7 grocery stores we got used to. But now it's changing back. So keep up the good work. Don't know if you've heard of her, but "Alaska Granny" has a great channel. Also try making your own Mayo. It is easy and fun. And you can season to taste. I make mine 1 pint jar at a time. And a simple bread recipe. You can gather yeast in the store a few packets at a time. I place them all in a Zip Lock bag and keep it in my freezer. So it doesn't get old. The journey to making your home more self sufficient is a whole education in itself. But very rewarding. Makes you able to MGyver ( so to speak) up so many things. Just like learning new hacks for storage or making things more efficient. Once you get into it. You will never be without or your family. Good for you!! I know women here that due to higher prices are now making their own breads and mayo along with so many more that have gone back to planting the gardens they kept in the past... In an uncertain world the more piece of mind you can have the better. Be it storms. Or shortages going on or sickness in the area. They are easier to deal with when you know you have supplies in place to help yourself and the family through it.

All your random items are always useful. They save having to make the little emergency trips to town to pick up. Sickness seems to pop up late at night or weekends when stores may be closed. So don't discount them. I have found that Harbor freight will have good battery operated small lanterns for emergencies as well. And large packs of batteries fairly inexpensive too. It can save a lot. It is not hoarding. Farm families have done these things for generations. Don't stress what anyone else thinks about it!!

Several canners and pantry keepers. Will use their items All through January and some through February. And do not buy from the store. Just use the older items from their canning or pantry. Helps to keep all your goods more up to date. And by doing that it also lets you know where you may have gaps in your preps. And also tastes change as a family grows. So you can change your purchases along with family needs. I do this for December and January. It helps to free up some money for Christmas and holidays. And in January when all the bills are due for insurances, land taxes, etc. That helped me through the years.

I also bought 1 gallon water jugs from the Dollar general. About 5 of them. Liked them because they have a lid on top and a pour spout in the lid. They are used for my rice or dry beans. Because then I can pour out what I need from the jug. And they have a carry handle on the side. Keeps from having so many of the bags that can when stacked slide off the shelf and break open on the floor. And easy to spot what I need. I filled 3 jugs with dry beans and one with rice and one with instant potatoes.

Great pantry! I started a small pantry about 4 years after we married. And slowly grew it with things found on sale. And I can't tell you how many times that small pantry saved us through the years. Then 2018 I just felt an urgency to increase my pantry. My husband built a nice pantry shelf for me a floor to ceiling cabinet like a big bookshelf very sturdy. And worked to fill it. When that was done. I still didn't feel it was enough because then I worried for family. Because by then we were about 8 months into COVID. And I purchased the same shelf unit you have. And filling a pantry out like that does take time. And trying to save money. I started by choosing our 5 most used vegetables and 5 most used carbs ( pasta/rice/potatoes). Once I kind of got that. Then worked on canned meats. Then added breakfast items. Now when I started my small pantry was back in the middle 70's. A pantry saves so much. Time gas worry through the years in life's ups and downs. Your doing great. I have similarly stocked for us. And yes we have Jesus candles too. 😆

This is the first video of yours that I have seen it just popped into my suggested videos. Anywho you said you aren't a "hardcore" prepper so what I'm saying you might already know or maybe you don't have a clue at all......... Rice, pasta, hot chocolate, mashed potatoes Ramen all things like that have weevil eggs in them so PLEASE put these items into a freezer for 48hours to kill off anything that could hatch. Please keep in mind weevils don't read expiration dates so they don't wait until after the expiration date to hatch. I just threw away about 18 lbs of flour left in my 25lb bag that still had almost 11 months left on before the "best buy" date and there was weevils all in my flour!! UGH the last thing you want to do is go to use your food and find extra moving protein crawling in your food!! I have repurposed two of my square plastic laundry soap containers. I cleaned them out well and put a small cap full of bleach in them and filled with water. I put one under my kitchen sink to use for hand washing if there is no water and another in the bathroom to pull out to wash hands if needed. The general rule is 1 gallon of water per person per day. I personally am not ok with my drinking/cooking water being used to wash hands or bathe with. Best wishes to you and your family. Ok I came back because your comment about people saying that peppers are crazy or Hoarding..... WELL let me tell you lololololol I was a single mom myself and was watching the news like the rest of the world in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. There was a young mother who had a week old newborn and she had been evacuated quickly to the stadium in the chaos that ensued after the hurricane. She said she had no more formula and no more diapers. She said her newborn wasn't crying in hunger anymore. I am CONVINCED that newborn lost his precious life in the horrible aftermath of the hurricane since it was days after this interview that help finally arrived!! I made the decision right then and there I would NEVER trust the well being of myself and my child to anyone but myself. Fast forward many many years and I will soon be the grandma to my 4th grad baby. My oldest granddaughter is going to by 9 soon. I no longer have a monthly cycle but after I watched a documentary of women in another country having hysterectomies in record numbers due to not having access to CLEAN sanitary napkins!! I purchase 1 package a month. The price has gone up almost $2 per package since I've been buying them. If you were to walk into my store room and see 14 packages you could easily assume that I've been hoarding however it's been S L O W L Y purchased ONE at a time over the course of the past 2 years. (I don't get them every month)

If you like beans stock up on the ones you do like! Beans and rice are a complete protein and you have a lot of rice! Rice is also very filling and so your supply would go a long way! With the keystone meat you are doing very well! I think you are going in the right direction and What I always do is look for areas I need to grow in and keep a running list there so you can take it with you when you shop ! That helps me enormously and I try to do the going through and gathering like things and basically ordering those things and doing an inventory before my big shops. If you or your husband get paid weekly then keeping in mind the five payday months helps a lot. I plan for times I will have extra money or lower bills and use that extra money to stock up. It really helps! Keep it up and I like your channel!

Get your dryer goods in airtight containers and put some Bay leaves in each one to keep bugs out. It would be a shame to lose your food to weevils. I buy mylar bags from Amazon and clear cereal containers from Sam's to put everything in so I can see all of my dry goods. Check your food the minute you get home, dry pet food too. It is not uncommon to bring home contaminated food from the store.
