That's the TAS which isn't done by a human... the world record speedrun is on the left. Even then it doesn't save time, it's purely for show

Happy lee speedrun could have been under 4'54 if he did flag pole glitch in 8-3...lost many frame rules here, absolutely not the perfect tas.

Flag pole glitch is brutally difficult for a human to do, let alone 4 times as Niftski pulls off.

The RTA rules TAS comes out to a 4:54.265, so it's actually not that bad of a comparison. (Personally, I'm shocked that they're less than a frame rule apart.) The only major difference is in 8-3, where L+R allows for a faster acceleration at the start of the level to squeak out a 244 and dodge the fireworks that way.

the issue with that is even the L+R fast accel isn't fast enough get a 244 on the timer while still doing flagpole glitch. 244 with no FPG and 242 with FPG end the level on the same framerule, so it doesn't cause time loss on Niftski's end. All the lost time is only in 8-4.

That tas is with L+R which is banned in regular speed runs due to it, not being possible on an original NES controller so it’s not a fair comparison

@jmreg08II it was one of many interesting comparison videos that came out last time around. But yes, there is more than one TAS. The Human RTA TAS is 4;54.265, which is the fastest possible way to beat the game with unmodified original hardware. HappyLee's absolute TAS disregards this rule, and use the illegal simultaneous R+L input to go even faster.

I do have a suggestion. Niftski has already gotten a "perfect" 8-4 as an Individual Level. In one of his videos, he does this on an original SMB1 rom (not the training / practice rom). That could be an interesting element for comparison. Perhaps a 4-way split-screen showing Human RTA TAS 8-4, Niftski perfect 8-4 IL on original rom, Niftski best 8-4 in a run (from 4;54.798 FWR, 11 frames from perfect), And Niftski current 8-4 (from 4;54.565 WR, 18 frames from perfect). Now that Niftski has pulled the WR to less than 21 frames away from perfect, all focus will be on 8-4 from now on, so a comprehensive 8-4 comparison video could be of some value. =)

Note: I've been informed HappyLee's TAS Uses L+R, a banned strategy for speed running since it is not possible on original hardware. I will make an update video comparing the current world record with a Human RTA TAS soon.
