I worked for Donny galbraith in 81 at Roosevelt just after niatross just wish he didn't have the two mishaps incredible animal

I saw Niatross in summer 1994 when they where showcasing him to bring fans out to Freehold Raceway in New Jersey . He was about 16-17...His coat looked shiny and his eyes clear,no greys, very little sway in his back, he looked great. I spoke to his handler and he said Niatross will whinny to get out of the paddock and train. They took him out often, as that made him happy and without any prep he could still go 27 for a qt on a training track, they wouldn't let him do more or too often and they would ease him up after that run, but the handler felt if they trained him down.. theoretically..& he would put money on it, that he could still pace in 1:56 or so at that time, also it was very hard to train him with other horses on the track ,because if he saw or horse going full out race wise, he would try to turn. It shows you his gameness and heart. Best of all time in my book.

the amazing thing about niatross is that even with todays sub 150 miles and all the drugs and souped up tracks,33 years have gone by and they have only been able to go 2 seconds faster then the great ones 149 time trial at red mile,enough said
