It needs to be restored for human beings?!?!?! I don't agree...keep human beings OUT!

Instead of saying God created the plants, you claim the wind brought them from Europe. 😅 Go figure.

A severe and stark beauty here - romantic pianos and strings and sunshine are not the usual accompaniments to a visit to this wilderness - howling gales, sleet, drenching rain and lowering clouds are the more usual guests. This is wild, remote and difficult country to love at times. Those living here need to be self contained, resilient but also community supporting. The comment below about discouraging people from visiting, goodness, I understand that. "Eco-tourism" - there's no such thing. On the other hand, sheuaish63 gives a worthwhile counter argument. I think the North Coast 500 should give a warning, though. How many tonnes of CO2 do all these camper vans and mobile homes spew forth in their effort to "get away for it all". How much have the local people truly benefitted from this invasion of petrol-fuelled people? Perhaps the thing that will save the Flow Country is the fact that its beauty is so austere and subtle - thousands of hectares of low bogs and marshes will never attract a multitude. Gian notes too the over-romanced presentation of this video. But it is wonderful that the Scottish government and other organisations have realised how destructive past forestry has been to the area, of the ecological value of such superficially unappealing landscapes, and that this damage is being successfully remediated. Congratulations to Scotland, the "Worlds most beautiful country".

I agree. As a landscape photographer in Easter Ross and regular visitor to the Flow Country, it's true that it's not easy to show the beauty of the area (compared to, say, the more in-your-face west coast). But that's what I love about it. I find it interesting that the general "word on the streets" among NC500 visitors is that there's "nothing to see in the East" and that the leg from John O'Groats back down the A9 to Inverness is just a fast return leg. I quite like it that way. I was at the launch of the Flow Country Partnership SCIO on Friday, at which this video was shown. Grand plans re. UNESCO World Heritage status.
