I think the concept is great, I don't know the play of the bearings, but I like the Idea of being able to replace everything, I acutally think this is a great idea, that anyone can take , and make improvements or whatever depending on their needs, ppl always think of others ideas as useless because they are only thinking in their needs, maybe this is just perfect for you and hope it works well for you.

whats the wobble like of those linear bearings? its seems like a cheap way to make the slide, but compared to a dovetail and gib, it seems like there be a certain amount of play in the bearing that you could never adjust, which would make getting a good finish on parts pretty impossible.

Without a tailstock its basically useless. It can be salvaged by moving the leadscrew to the outside of the carriage and mounting seperate rails for the tailstock and mounting the limit switch to the tailstock so it cant crash

lol, imagine thinking a lathe without a tailstock is useless.

For what the outcome is, that's a hell of a lot of work. Wrong LM guides used. OK for wood or plastic ...not for metal, even aluminum. Spindle bearings are very likely the incorrect bearings as well. For someone with lots of free time and has equipment and material and wants to make "something", this is pretty good! Unfortunately, extremely limited practical use "as is". .

I don't get it. For me just that spindle housing worth of steel would cost prob over 300 bucks! Whats that 3/4" steel? Shit maybe even more than 300 bucks! Where can I get metal for cheaper? If anyone in Seattle area knows where I can get metal stock for cheaper PLEASE share! Or just in general if ur not from Seattle lol!

@@taxicamel what would be the better LM guides - linear axis? I was surprised he's not using ball screws... I'm considering my own small lathe build and the quickest version is probably going to be to get pre-made hiwin linear motion guides and a pre-made taig or sherline headstock. not sure how i will do the tailstock though!

Can this machine be threaded?
@Cien_Swiatla

it is impossible to make threads on this lathe, for this you need to precisely match the speed of the spindle motor to the movement of the tool carrier

@@Cien_Swiatla and it is not possible to write in g code? Did you seen that frequencu driver (inverter) on wall an did you heard spinning up spindle? It is for sure driven, thus programmable
@taxicamel
@taxicamel Жыл бұрын
If you mean "can this machine machine threads" the answer is NO IT CANNOT. An encoder is needed on the spindle that identifies spindle position. There is no encoder on the spindle to pick this up ....hence this machine CANNOT machine any kind of thread. .
@taxicamel
@taxicamel Жыл бұрын
@@Cien_Swiatla this has absolutely NOTHING to do with SPEED. The machine cannot machine any thread of any kind regardless of what the speed is. The controller needs to know the position of the spindle and there is no encoder on the spindle to pick this up. .
@Cien_Swiatla
@Cien_Swiatla Жыл бұрын
@@taxicamel this is not a milling machine, to make the thread, all you need is the material rotation speed and the speed of the tool carrier. for what do you need the spindle position?
