I'm grateful this was posted. I had the honor of having a semester with Dr. Mosimann as an independent study undergraduate student. I was also one of his worst students in the lecture course I was taking from him at the same time. He told me point blank he wished someone else would have been the one to request an independent study term with him. I don't think he liked me very much on a personal level either. Still that time was highly educational, and helped me to begin developing as a scientist. Dr. Mosimann has had many, many more struggles than what he elaborated here, and it is good to know that success is possible even when the vicissitudes of life collaborate to disrupt and thwart your efforts. Thank you for that insight.

Margaret Fuller had a bigger influence on Americans and charity than Dickens arguably,

I do however very much agree with the value of the serious study of literature.

Dickens sure did not invent Christmas. Washington Irving, Sir Walter Scott, Clement Clarke Moore all contributed hugely. Dickens was a huge fan of Irving and lines from W.I. Directly inspire lines in Christmas Carol. The way we celebrate Christmas in America is very different from Christmas Carol. It is based on Santa Claus and benevolence not redemption. We do not do Dickens Christmas balls, or play snap dragon. We hang stockings like Moore and watch for a fanciful character in the skies as per Washington Irving. Sorry I just do not agree with your argument that Dickens created Christmas - not in America.

A Black person telling their story is a privilege, a Black woman telling her story is an honour. When people who are systemically dehumanised, disenfranchised and subjugated step out, they are said to be bold. Bold is always attached to Black consciousness. Sandra is bold because she is a conscious Black woman. This is a call for reflection.
