There is something very special about this song, with a young Clapton on lead vocals in the early '70s. I get tearful after he comes in, those tender vocals are powerful

I don't understand your description for the clip. Why shouldn't Duane have played on Layla?? Lol I don't get it.

One of the very best musical line ups ever seen. Legendary stuff this band. Clapton still plays this song today , his 70th birthday at the UK Royal Albert Hall is a great live version.
@SteveEngland-kg4iz Жыл бұрын
This song was not let it rain originally, Clapton used the instrumental track from another song and dubbed the words to let it rain, I once had that song on a random cassette tape. Wish I still had it !!!

Let it rain is so much better than the studio recording because this band freaking smokes. Gordon Radle and Whitlocks organ and backing vocals smashes like nothing else Wow 😳

Marc weeks That's one of the most incredible reads. I was aware of his incarcerations, but you give it a personal melancholy touch. The list of musicans that Clapton has lost, a heavy burden.

First heard this in the early 70’s. Found the record in my dad’s collection and was blown away. Then discovered Mountain Jam on eat a peach. Both songs from the Fillmore I believe. From that point on was hooked on both bands. Then got a guitar, of course. Thanks for the memories!!

Just listened to Chicago live from Carnegie Hall version of "Ballet for a girl in Buchannon" and couldn't help but think of this Jim Gordon drum playing and solo, it sure sounds like it influenced Danny Seraphine a lot... kzbin.info/www/bejne/joeVfoyDlqerg68

Thank you "Skivideos" for sharing this recording. .... In the photo above L-R are Jim Gordon (drums), Carl Radle (bass), Bobby Whitlock (keyboards, vocals) , Eric Clapton (vocals, guitar). Clapton and Whitlock continue to perform in 2023. RIP Carl Radle (great bassist) and Jim Gordon (great drummer).

I used to see Jim Gordon several times a week where I used to work, which was the California Medical Facility in Vacaville, CA. Gordon was incarcerated there and hospitalized on the inpatient medical unit. I would scan documents into the electronic medical records for the patients on the unit, and occasionally Gordon would stop off at the nurses' station to ask a question. He looked nothing like the tall, strapping young man of his drumming years. I heard from one of the nurses that he had asked for a book from the prison library about rock stars. One can only imagine what he might have wanted with that. He played on lots of popular records, so he may have been trying to remember or maybe he wanted to show his fellow inmates who he had played drums with. I made damn sure though that everyone in that area knew who he had been at one time.

It sad when your at the top of your game everyone is or wants to be your friend but when you truly need a friend no 1 is there. Never take people for granted you never know when you might need a real true friend. Gordon was a great drummer thou.

Are you serious about " another reason why Dwane Allman shouldn't have played on the Layla album "? I always loved Eric, but the reason that album is a classic is because Dwane played on it. Also WADR. This was not great playing by Clapton. Agree about Jim Gordon solo. It's great.
