Do you think any plastic is chipping off? I think my only concern is burning plastic then 🤔
@thefrugalhomestead7873
@thefrugalhomestead7873 12 сағат бұрын
If it does it would be minimal. They do make wooden buckets and barrels that you could do this in if you were worried about it. It's important to understand there's microplastics and everything now including the water so... That said it also depends on what you're using it for any newer stove as in wood stove should be sealed which means even if a little tiny bit of plastic burns it's just going out the chimney not out into the air. Now a fireplace technically it is airborne but fireplaces are super inefficient and basically suck everything out the chimney anyways. It's always a good idea to be weary and think about such things though.

@thefrugalhomestead7873

Pretty bad you completely miss point of video. Our tires are not full of plugs our tires are on a aligned vehicle our tires have correct air pressure. add all that up and we maintain our tires better then probably half the population of America. Add in that we put a lot of miles on cars so tires are on less then 2 years dry rot is almost impossible in that time. But trolls always need something to cry about. Keep commenting you just telling KZbin to share this video more often.

the growatt inverters have smart isolation relays built in? so you aren't pumping power if the grid is down?
@thefrugalhomestead7873
@thefrugalhomestead7873 3 күн бұрын
If grid is down the island technology shuts the grid tie down. Even cheap grid ties have this technology. It's pretty clear the quality here though as this one has a countdown before restart when the power comes back on. This is in case you get surges turning it on and off.

@@thefrugalhomestead7873 very nice. That is what I assumed I just wanted someone who has and runs one to say so. I run the same cheap Inverter you have at the start of the video. I'm in Guatemala and it's completely legal to run such a unit off panels into your house even at a net gain they Bank your kilowatt hours for up to 4 months and apply it to future bills so it's a pretty amazing deal. I found 450 w astron energy panels for 130$ brand new and a growatt 5kw inverter for around 900 new so it seems like a no-brainer to step up and run one of these.

Ignoring the cost of making the press, which would be negliable over time, how does the electricity input relate to BTUs produced?
@thefrugalhomestead7873
@thefrugalhomestead7873 5 күн бұрын
That is a very good way long-term to think about it. We did not measure such because we have a grid tie system so our numbers would be skewed . That said a hand press puts out just fine The only reason we use anything else is to get them squeezed out as much as possible that way they dry faster The reality you could make a water barrel worth of material for about 3 cents worth of electric and make a lot of briquettes

Any idsues with creosote from the coffee bricks? Coffee beans have an oil, so am curious about that. Thanks!
@thefrugalhomestead7873
@thefrugalhomestead7873 7 күн бұрын
No they conbust pretty completely. I would guess most of the oil gets burnt off during roasting and then what's left as you make coffee runs off. But there are some woods that have natural tannin oils too. I will say these burn more like charcoal so you have less build up in your chimney compared to burning dirty bark

I use to work on a worm farm. Yep Worms. We would go to the local cafe's, McDonalds etc and pick up the used coffee grounds. Worms love them, Good food for them and keeps the farms moist. Would have a more productive venture if the cafe's and etc would not throw the coffee capsules and packages in their also. Worms don't get the buzz from caffeine hit, Well not the used coffee grounds. But if have a coffee machine and use the package stuff, empty the used grounds into a tub. Put them in your compost or worm farms etc. Remember that worms hate the heat, but will rise up if the rain or water starts to submerge them. They will drown. I would love to try to make coffee ground brickets. I reakon it would smell so good also.

How's the smell on them? I do alot of desert camping in AZ where there isnt exactly alot of spare wood to burn and the nights can get brutally cold even in the summer so bringing a bunch of these would be amazing but I'm wondering how bad the smell might be? it seems like you avoided magazines or anything colored ink in your bricks which I imagine would make the bricks smell like burning plastic but have you noticed anything with just the paper and ink?
@thefrugalhomestead7873

It's not much of a smell yes stay away from glossy magazines ECT. Our video with coffee briquettes might be better for camping cuz coffee keeps bugs away. These are also incredibly light so you could bring a bunch of them and not even matter
