Do you have to pre-heat in the oven beforehand, or can you put it on the stove right away?

I scored a 15 1/4" Lodge at a yard sale. Its a monster. And yet they do make them bigger. I will say that the big ones do hold a huge amount. I used to think a #10 skillet was pretty big.
I have a lot of cast iron skillets but my biggest is a 14.5" Lodge Blacklock skillet. I mostly use it in the over for roasting or pizza, but I will use it on the largest stovetop burner too. The Blacklock skillets are lightweight so the 14.5" is surprisingly easy to handle.

Most of the ceramic glass range manufacturers say you shouldn't span cookware across two elements like this or you risk cracking the glass. No truth to this?

Simple note STOP using seed oils, instead use butter or bacon grease. Seed oils are very bad for you!
@heatheryoung9254Ай бұрын
Butter and bacon grease are very bad for you too. 😂😂😂
@harrywilliammcbride9910Ай бұрын
@@heatheryoung9254im sorry u made me do this ummm actually 🤓 seed oils are full of very harmful things like omega 6 fatty acids and are highly deodorised, oxidised and pressurised which makes it highlyyyyy inflammatory so butter and bacon grease are holy foods (in moderation) compared to those rubbish seed oils (there is no healthy amount for these) they r just rancid things that stay in ur body.stay healthy.
@annmariek8754Ай бұрын
High quality butter and meat fats, are indeed good for us because of the omega fatty acids.

We've used this griddler for a variety of items including steak, fish, vegetables kzbin.infoUgkxMcXT6_MuT0hB3ejyGQQHaeof9bwoWPUf and mushrooms and it's been great! Gets that great smokey flavor when using high heat or sear. The grill works amazingly simple and very low smoke for what it is. Heat gets up fairly quick, especially on closed position. The griddler side is fairly simple, better for eggs and pancakes rather than any cooking. Use the flat plates with the grill side if needed.Cleanup is easy and having heat on both sides is great for cooking a large amount or panini press.This definitely gets hot though so be careful with the sides.

that 13.25 makes a big difference. It is what we use for bacon. Also the bigger pan comes with the chef handle.

Picked up an excellent condition slightly used Lodge 13.25 inch Skillet for 20 bucks which was a very fair price I do believe. I plan to do up a variety of home made Pizzas in it mostly. I have other cast iron pieces to do other cooking which is just as much a pleasure as it is a convenience. Having different sizes and cast shapes of cast iron on hand is like having multiple tools in the tool box and it can make all the difference.

The bigger the pan the longer it takes to heat the whole pan.

I have (among others) a Lodge 12" and also a Lodge 15" that I scored from HomeGoods ... it was like $29.99 instead of $59.95 [they're 'seconds' ... Factory Defects , almost always some ridiculously minor mark or slightly imperfect seasoning, whatever, they're cast iron skillets not artistic pieces for the wall...] - but let me tell you, that 15" is almost TOO BIG ... On the scale it's a bit over 11lbs ... well I am obviously getting old because that 11.2lbs feels like 112 ... but it's a lot of fun to cook with! I will have to search out the 13.25, hadn't seen one! As it happens, I just now picked up a 12" for a birthday present tomorrow, hope she likes it!

12" diameter is 36(pi) while 13.25" diameter is 43.89(pi) which is 21.92% more space. Trick is that you always need a burner that is slightly bigger than the pans diameter though. Also, for reference the 10.25" diameter is 26.27(pi) which is only 72.96% the space of a 12" Fun fact, every Dutch oven (exception, camp ovens) Lodge makes has a lid size that corresponds to the size of the lid a skillet would use. 1qt DO to 6.5" 2 qt DO to 8" 5 qt DO to 10.25" 5.5 qt Blacklock to 10.25" 7 qt DO to 12" 9 qt DO to 13.25"

Got my double side griddle from Home Goods for $25 bucks. Took a sander to the flat side and made it smooth as glass. 80 grit, then 120 grit. Probably didn't need too, but I don't have years to wait for a proper time infused seasoning. Coat it in oil and bake it for an hour in a 450 oven. Did it 2x. It worked like magic

I know cast iron is better but I dont like babysitting it so i ordered a cast aluminum one by Nordic Ware and am waiting for it to come in. I dont even use my 10" cast iron skillet because its annoying (to me) having to take extra measures. Completely agree about gas, you have way more temperature control. I have a glass top in my new house i moved to and hate it, the area I am in there is no natural gas lines so im fked

Is there a good or proper way to use these where you don't smoke out your entire house? Got one for christmas, but regardless of running my fume extractor at high speed, my house is filled with smoke within minutes....

I have the 12 inch version as well. I can cook just about everything in it... However, for a large family, bigger might be better.. For example..I can sear 2 really nice sized Ribeyes on the 12 inch, but it lacks space for a 3rd.. Recently married with extended family..I now need that extra space.. Do you feel like the 13.25 would work?

Thanks for this, I was worried about getting the reversible grill because that inch or so of space and lack of direct contact on a glass top might mean it wouldn't get hot enough.
