Hum... how can we objectively compare these plugins without comparing them to the original hardware they are emulating ? We can't say which one is the closest to the original. So in the end, it's just a matter of taste.

For everyone pointing out that the settings are different, the video below provides a graphic comparison of the EQ curves of UAD vs. AO. The plugin designs sometimes require different settings to achieve the same curve. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o52qmpaQp7N7h6M

Another one to add to this list now is the Noise Ash Rule Tec. Can be had for under $50 on sale and I like how they have the high and low pass included in one unit. The UAD one is probably the most accurate but to my ears, the Rule Tec is close behind it.

The UAD sounds better than the 140 I worked with. They’ve done something to the stereo image. In a good way.

A lot of unnecessary attitude in these comments.. It was an honest mistake, he realized and acknowledged. Shit happens! Grym video Roger! Hade varit kul ifall du slängt in och jämfört med Analog Obsession versionen också :)

Can anyone tell me how he got the 99sounds VST on logic?? Isn’t it only for Protools?

Yeah the UAD plugin is a little softer while the analog obsession has a little more punch again you can use either I like both Analog Obsessions and UAD I find that UAD maybe has a little more beta testing for bugs than AO however both make great plugins. Nothing is stopping you from using both, a lot of it comes down to processing power how much it consumes.. and with UAD if you run SHARC DSP plugins rather than native to offload processor imo. Also Antelope runs quite a few DSP plugs if I am remembering correctly also some pultec clones. ProQ is way brighter, are the DB levels the same?

I plugged my Casio psx3100 into my PC hoping to use the "Upright Piano" vst pluggin from the Waveform Free 13. However I only hear my own Casio piano sound and not the "Upright Piano" sound I was hoping for. To play the "Upright Piano" sound, I have to use the virtual keyboard on my computer screen. What am I doing wrong?
@marcvanhie44252 ай бұрын
what kind of cable are you using to connect your casio with your PC? It has to be a midi and not an audio cable. Then, you will have to assign in your DAW program that the midi coming in, will be from your Casio. If that's the case then you will be able to play on your casio and use other sounds like this Upright Piano. Hope this helps.

I guess I play favorites in this case by what I own. It just seems to be the best to me. I've got the UAD Pultec. I bought it just last week, with a UAD build you own bundle. $49 per item ain't too bad. Pultec Passive EQ collection, plus 4 others.

Great video! At 3:10 you think it sounds like a plate. Good ear! It's inspired by the EMT-140, thus the play-on-numbers "041."

I love RareSE and Tunca's plugins in general. A while back I did a comparison of his LALA with Universal Audio's LA-2A. I found using Plugin Doctor that to get close to matching the curves the settings on the two were very different. To my surprise matching them in plugin doctor as close as I could the UA LA-2A sounded really harsh and over the top while LALA was beautifully warm and gentle, much more to my liking and my idea of what opto is supposed to sound like. I have never used the real hardware and only heard it in the context of countless records but I somehow doubt it sounds like the UA LA-2A. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for Universal Audio, just not sure about their LA-2A.

Asked to subscribe in a way that I couldn't resist and did in a sec… The way you record strings is the same way that I have been doing for 20 years. Limitation makes creative idea… My friend is a virtuse violin and viola player and I came to this idea many years ago… I do one step more than yours which makes a nice different too. As he always come to my studio with almost 4 or more instruments too, I bring 4 to 6 chairs to the studio and ask him play every time with a different instruments on a different chair :) But with just one Microphone and I loved your idea of placing close and far mics which I hadn't tried yet and thanks for sharing this idea.I also use and play on all recorded lines with sample to give the richness I expect. I always say to everyone in these situations that use sample libraries for the texture you want and use and mix real performer for just the articulations which is not possible by sample libraries and mix them depending in the size and genres you need… Some times my friend and other performer get mad at me after doing and recording this difficult and boring recording session cause after the final mix they realize that in some cases I had leveled and mix their efforts with samples like 30% to 70%😂 and I always apologise for the mix and say I needed your articulation of you but the sound of the libraries which are sampled and recorded by best engineers in the best halls or rooms and they respond: then you could have recorded 8 or so times for each part instead of 32 channel for each section😂 But as I get older I am so tired of these kinds of faking which is so time consuming and wish for situations I just focus on composition itself instead of… Thanks for sharing and your inspiring video. I have some playlists of my music which you can listen if you like in my youtube channel. Best Ali

the thing with AO plugins is that we all know they're more than adequate for profesional use. and they're free, so you can't go wrong with them, use them, get used to their sound, they'll never hinder you skills

These plugins may sound different from one another but we have to consider the hardware unit it was modeled after. Those old hardware units were different from each other. Even 2 of them one serial number apart can sound completely different. Tolerance specs have become tighter in later years but in the past I’m not so sure they even cared about tolerance measurements.
