I know that folk often smile at the folk who talk to unseen entities, perhaps at bus stops or walking along the street, and I remember that my mother, who was a schizophrenic, heard voices, too. However, I've often thought and believed that these voices, who give advice or opinions or comments, mostly arise from the inner self of a person, the part, maybe that's not integrated, for example. Maybe even a part that was 'discouraged from becoming' when the person was a child. But surely we all have an internal system for 'ordering' our lives and experiences, sometimes they harm us because they're based on trauma or beliefs that grew out of trauma, but essentially, surely, they're a key to understanding a person, because they have a logic that's clear when experiences are unravelled/unpicked during therapy, for example. If they emanate from the person themselves - then they're a signpost for others who actually care to listen properly.

What a superb explanation of BLS and how it works... I really feel that I've got a grip on it now, that I understand the process. Thank you.

I stopped blanking for signifigant periods of time out after EMDR treatment 25 years ago and returned to therapy two years ago. It was time to grind I find this somewhat hilarious.

I have one question please , in the beginning, it was mentioned that you don't want to stop the process of dissociation .. then you mentioned the method how to take the person out of dissociation with the two mentioned examples.. so when to stop the client and when to let it take its time ? When to use this ? Thanks

EMDR gave me my life back - at the age of 14 i was abducted, held captive for approximately 10 hours taunted, raped and threatened with murder. This manifest some years later ( aged 21 ) As Severe Agoraphobia, PTSD. There's so much more to this however, I had many talking therapies over the years which didn't really work . I came across EMDR in my 40's and this truly set me free - I joined the police with the soul intention of helping other victims of crime - I'm a big advocate of EMDR . If you're reading this and suffering in anyway, seek out a reputable therapist and get your life back Free of anxiety, depression and those horrendous panic attacks. The money that you may spend on a holiday is better spent on getting your life back - The rest of your life will then be a holiday. Please don't suffer , get yourself some EMDR therapy 🙏❤ It also works for confidence building too. If you need to give a speech or are nervous about an interview or getting married EMDR Will help with all of this - May you find your inner freedom like I have - I'm now 61yrs young ❤

I'm extremely happy it had worked well for you. As for others like myself my issues stemmed from a more interpersonal nature. Unfortunately, many social workers and psychologist have no true intelligence when helping a individual.

Nothing happens to assist the client who had experienced severe emotional neglect and abuse. EMDR may work for those who had less severe issues. Otherwise, don't waste your time and money. Personally, I think it's all a bunch of hype.

@@deethompson3592 I'm sorry to disagree with you. I've researched this and believe its the wrong approach in working with their clients who'd experienced trauma and severe emotional neglect. Interpersonal and Cognitive therapies most likely will work better. These past issues were interpersonal, and a trained therapist beforehand, should at least listen to their clients concerns and intelligently answer all of their questions. Many therapists may be certified in areas such as EMDR, but ack the skills in helping a individual. Personally, for me it was a waste of time and money. Lastly, many therapists will never set a date for completion. They just continue having you return doing nothing in regard to helping you get better. Shapiro should of done a little more homework before launching this as a cure all. It simply does not EXIST.

I think different therapies work for different people. For you, EMDR didn't work and that's OK. However, cognitive therapy worked for you and that's fine as well. I don't think it's right to disparage one type of therapy because it didn't work for you.
