The guy up the road bought a cargo trailer, actually rent to own. He put in two sets of bunk beds, refrigerator microwave and a window air conditioner. Rent to own. He has three Mexican girls living in it, they go off grid every weekend and sometimes for a whole week or two. He seems like a very happy man. And planning on letting it all go back and get everything new again next year. I've got everything picked out and I'm going to do the same .... but I think I'll only need two Mexican girls.... ??? 😮.

For the surface rod, did you use a drop weight to get it down to a certain depth? Also, are you trolling by rowing with the oars? Thanks

Thanks for watching. On the surface rod I just drop it back 80 - 100 feet and it stays pretty much in the top 10 feet of the surface. No extra weight. That kayak paddles well so I was just paddling. My speed was in between .8 and 1.2 mph. For bait I was using shoepeg corm.

I have a question about layout blinds. So I was watching your videos, and to me, it seemed that layout blinds will magically conceal you. I say this because yours doesn't look heavily brushed in, and you seem to be out in the open. So I tried it hunting in a field and the birds saw me very well. What's your trick? Or is it all about location?
@northerntribeoutdoors5938
@northerntribeoutdoors5938 5 ай бұрын
We are hunting mud flats so there is no grass. Some of the areas have some little marsh grass that is about 3 inches high but is more texture and nothing to speak of. So if we added a bunch of grass we would look out of place. We really try and mud up the blinds so they just look like the mud. Our mud flats also have stumps and logs in them in various places. I suspect we flare some birds with our blinds (especially late season). We have in the past sat right on the mud with our gun boxes as back rests and camo burlap over the top of us. This was probably the most effective way to hunt. But when the tides are high, the MoMarsh Invisaman blinds let us continue to hunt as the water gets deeper. Only tip on being in a field is look like the field. I have seen guys get in a field and grass up their blinds so that they are a big patch of brush in the middle of a field that looks nothing like that. To me that is not effective. match the hatch. The best camo is to hold still. Any movement and they are out. .02 Good luck.

@northerntribeoutdoors5938
@northerntribeoutdoors5938 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! We are using Invisaman Blinds from Momarsh. This is our first year trying them out. We use our kayaks for transportation. The tides are the game in saltwater. We hunt the tidal mudflats so we are CONSTANTLY moving. So your hunting strategy has to adjust for that. It is very tough hunting because you deal with the tides and mud. But rewarding when it works. In using your kayak always plan for safety especially in the salt where tides, wind, and no one around can mean that hypothermia is your biggest enemy if you dump your boat. We use a very stable kayak (Wavewalk) and are wearing drysuits. No duck is worth your life. Happy hunting.

@northerntribeoutdoors5938 8 ай бұрын
Avoid it! lol. Seriously, we have hunted these mudflats for 20 years so we know the characteristics of the mud and how to avoid it. But a couple of safety things especially if you are learning a new mudflat. Never hunt alone. If you do never make a solo retrieve without being tethered to the boat. Mudders help. If you start to sink start walking on your knees and get out of that mud. Walking on your knees is like walking on a snowshoe.

Are you hunting in a kayak Layout Blind. Also Is the majority of your hunts tidal waters?
@northerntribeoutdoors5938
@northerntribeoutdoors5938 8 ай бұрын
We are hunting in Momarsh Invisaman Blinds. We use our kayaks for transportation. They are super stable and can handle the nasty stuff that comes up out there especially later in the year. We basically only hunt this location. We talk about hunting others but we have it so good through the year that we have not really branched out much. Tidal hunting is tough because you have to move constantly so we have to have a rig that you can move in under 10 min or you end up not hunting only moving.

Nice! I'm converting a 5 X 10 but 5' high. Adding two windows myself. I've never done this stuff before so it's taking me a long time because I don't want to eff it up lol. And I'm doing this for the same reason: to haul off-highway. If you keep the typical, stock leaf-spring straight axle, those leafs can be brittle and then break in the middle of nowhere. If you keep that suspension, go snag another leaf pack from a trailer supply and keep it as a spare. Or do like others have done and buy/install a Timbren Axle-less setup. I have the earlier, pre-HD version which is limits tire size to a 235/75-15 for unsprung weight purposes. Heavier wheel/tire setups are like flywheels and can beat up weak hubs and other lightweight suspension components. Here's wishing you safe travels. Like your trailer!
@northerntribeoutdoors5938
@northerntribeoutdoors5938 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Enjoy your build. No leaf springs on this trailer, but torsion axle. Mixed reviews on those. I am way under any weight issues. More problematic is the bouncing on the washboard. Air down and slow down is the only solution to that. Sometimes you are on good road and then out of no where a series of potholes and look out she be bouncin. Lol I don't get that far off of forest service roads and not into the rock climbing with a trailer. lol Enjoy!

@northerntribeoutdoors5938
@northerntribeoutdoors5938 Жыл бұрын
Trout are way less sensitive to speed than Kokanee. I fish for kokanee and catch trout. That said, you fish the speed of your lure. A needle fish needs a higher speed. I am fishing flashers, so if you go too fast they will rotate and are not effective, So 2mph might be the right speed for some lures, but generally not kokanee. Hope that helps.
