Do not pry the axle out of the diff. Plunge and pull on the shaft. You can crack the diff housing by prying on it

So I watched this video and said "I can do that" So I did it and now im pulling my motor out of my talon. Without being able to at least plastigauge the rod bearings there is no way to ensure proper seating of the bearings. So i cooked a bearing is about 15 miles of driving my talon. I would HEAVILY advise if you are going to change pistons in one of these engines to remove it COMPLETELY from the Talon and build it on a bench. No measurement is accurate laying on your back on the garage floor. Pull the crank, measure the journals and install new bearings when you pull a rod. When you are talking about tolerances down to the ten thousanth for oil clearance you need to make 100% sure you have those right. Also that little crank closed ring compressor is garbage. If you are having an engine built and you see one of those run for your engines life. They never work right on performance engines with stainless rings. You want to use a Wiseco tapered compressor ring with NO seams. People fail to realize these are high performance engines. Especially when you are adding boost. Building it in chassis on the garage floor is unacceptable. When you go to get an engine you need to ask to see, piston rings, bore gauge measurements, journal measurements, oil clearance on the rod bearings. If they cant AT LEAST give you all of that, RUN.

That leak didnt fix itself. The oil level is low and stopped leaking out. Its a common situation on small diffs on bikes and buggies. If the seal goes it could have been a piece of dirt or if it keeps going the diff bearing is bad
@gravesru
@gravesru 4 ай бұрын
The leak did stop itself and the oil level is not low. This is very common with the Honda talon because the oil level is above the seal.
@brapbrapmafucka
@brapbrapmafucka 4 ай бұрын
The oil level is above the seal on virtually every diff. Its gota be 1/2 to 1/3 up the lowest rolling element and some of those diffs only hold 250mL just food for thought@@gravesru
@gravesru
@gravesru 4 ай бұрын
The oil level is way below the seal on the Honda talon rear differential and it doesn’t leak at all. I have 20,000 miles in a talon and I’ve worked on many of them. So my opinion is off of actual experience with the talon, especially for the review video. The talon diff is not like every other diff out there.
@brapbrapmafucka
@brapbrapmafucka 4 ай бұрын
The oil level has to be touching the lowest rolling element in the bearings on every single diff on planet earth im not trying to argue just warning ive rebuilt diffs and replaced them becase people think it fixed itsrlf lol @@gravesru
@gravesru
@gravesru 4 ай бұрын
@@brapbrapmafucka well, you’re wrong. Pull a Honda talon rear differential and see for yourself. It only holds 3.4 oz and it’s below the rear seal. The utv diff is not like the majority of diffs out there. You made a comment that was not true by saying it didn’t stop leaking, it ran low on oil. You have no idea, you’re making assumptions because you think you know when you don’t. That’s just a fact. I have the diff in my possession and know about it and the oil level and you just don’t. You’re making comments that you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Surely one can get away with slow driving and maneuvering on concrete or asphalt… like in a driveway/garage scenario right?? I still have the light stock tires and wheels. After I wash my unit I may also take it on a quarter mile zip in the neighborhood just to dry it off. I appreciate the video
@gravesru
@gravesru 4 ай бұрын
Yes, for sure. You just want to minimize time on the asphalt. It just puts a lot of strain on the axles and rear differential when turning right or left because one tire will have to spin on the asphalt. If I have to drive on asphalt, I try to put one tire in the gravel on corners when possible.

Have you done any service or upgrade to the drive shaft from your transfer case? I've got a short video on my channel of it making a chattering noise. It appears to be the coupling causing the noise. Initially I'd thought it was the rear right axel. It's still oem (for now), since my stereo masks the sound. 🤷🏻‍♂️
