+++ I absolutely LOVE this woman to her core! She is a beautiful soul inside and out...I had the pleasure of meeting her and going on tour with on a mission trip to Norway. We became really to her...she like an aunty I never had but now do. She absolutely feels blessed and honored to be a part of the history of music...She has a love for God or Savior Jesus Christ and when she share stories it show:) Love you always Ms. Louvaine Demps and Ms RoseMary for blessing me to meet such an awesome woman.

What a beautiful soul she is. If anybody deserves to be bitter about some of shenanigans by the brass at Motown it would be Miss Louvain and the Andantes. Instead, she is soft-spoken, grateful and a humble lady. There is something soothing about her whole being and demeanor as she mellowed me out just watching and listening to her speak.

+Proverbs1824 A large majority of recorded music has additional background singers, especially the solo sungers, many of the groups, and how abthe instrumentals that hod vocals performed on them. Hopefully you can allow yourself to enjoy the music for what it is, which is wonderful. Remember, it wasn't until WHAT'S GOING ON that we even saw credits on most Motown product. We might've been curious, but I was never disenchanted.

Fascinating interview. She seems to be genuinely proud of her contribution to the Motown legend. Not a hint of bitterness or envy at her contribution not being officially recognised or acknowledged at the time. The Andantes and the Funk Brothers really deserve the wider recognition that belatedly (in some cases too late) has come their way. Gordy sure knew how to exploit his workforce.

Moutton Noir probably not able to show bitterness because she along with other are brainwashed. Not to bite the hands that feeds you. She begun singing at 19 years old for Motown. In order to remain employed there she and other went to the school of hard knocks. Please I don’t want to be misunderstood my reason for saying these things are because I watched other documentary about the women voices behind Motown hits the Andantes were only mentioned and the pay was chicken chains.

I would like see them perform with Stevie Wonder. Kim Weston and th0se acts that they actually provided backup while they are still here. So many of these wonderful people are no longer here. And one more point to be considered let's not confuse the 'GHETTO' with the "Black Communities" enterprise wide across the United States Of America.

Wow! After all these years I have a face (and a beautiful personality) to go with those soaring voices in the backgrounds of my favorite Motown tunes. I agree, the Adantes should share recognition with The Funk Brothers

I read somewhere that not all the Motown groups appreciated the Andantes singing on their records. For example, I read that David Ruffin of the Temptations once locked the Andantes out of a recording session, feeling that the five Temptations were perfectly capable of handling the different vocal parts without adding the additional voices of the Andantes. I don't remember where I read this so I cannot verify the source of this information. I guess the feeling was that adding the voices of the Andantes into a Temptations' record would somehow diminish the importance of the five group members. I can understand this feeling, since when the group sings the song live, they are not going to have the Andantes on stage with them and the song will not sound the same as the recording. When the Four Tops sang "Just Ask The Lonely" live it did not sound at all like the record, because the Andantes did not accompany the Four Tops on the road. This can be disconcerting to a purist like me. Also in the biography written on the Marvelettes, group member Katherine Anderson expressed her reservations at having the Andantes sing with her or sub for her on the recordings after 1964. In fact, Katherine stated in her interview for the bio and in the documentary "Unsung" that she refused to pose on the album cover for the last Marvelettes album because it was the Andantes or other session singers who recorded most of the background singing on the album. Katherine felt it was insult to her to be asked to pose for an album cover for an album in which the Andantes do most of the background singing when she was perfectly capable of doing the background singing herself. Therefore, the final Marvelettes album had three faces on the cover of which two were blurred out and only lead singer Wanda Young's face appears since the other two Marvelettes refused to pose for the cover.

+JACK ANTHONY Your perception is really out of whack as to the inner-workings of the music business. While Ms Kat is bitter for what ultimately occurred with Marvellette's recordings, the sad reality is, the records had a different sound with the Andantes plus Ann Bogan of The Challengers, another early Motown product.

Thank you. It is true, I am not in the music business and therefore I do not know the inner workings of the music business. I am only a consumer who trusts that I am getting what the label says I am getting. So please inform us of the correct information so that I may correct my out of whack perceptions. I only know what I read so please feel free to use this space to provide us with the correct version.

It's Growing, Just Another Lonely Night,Last One Out Is Broken Hearted and That'll Be The Day and Love Woke Me Up This Morning, they sang with the Tempts on those songs. I've also read that Otis didn't want the Andantes singing with them and on those songs above that they did sing with The Tempts, their voices were supposed to be recorded much lower than the Tempts voices. I like what The Tempts did because they can sing their own material. People want to hear The Tempts sing, not the Andantes.
@jackanthony976
@jackanthony976 8 жыл бұрын
Tunes342 I agree with Otis of the Temptations. If I was a member of a vocal group I wouldn't want the Andantes singing on my records either. After all, unlike a single artist a vocal group is expected to supply its own lead singer as well as its own vocal harmony....that is what is expected of a vocal group. And yes, it is true, when people went to a live performance of the Temptations, the audience wanted to hear the Temptations not the Andantes. If the audience wanted to hear the Andantes with the Temptations then the Andantes would have their own microphone set up under or behind the stage during the live performance.
