Watching these pilots turn these giant unwieldy machines is fascinating. Having steered recreational hovercraft I know how uncontrollable they are. These monsters have fascinated me since I built the Airfix model 50 years ago.

Such a shame ... Getting rid of cool stuff like this ...to be replaced by french made boats because of spreadsheets .. Only things french have made popular in last 350yrs are camembert champagne and blowjob's ...

Hi! Is it possible for me to contact you about this footage via email? I'm very passionate about seafaring, history and photography. I'd love to use and upload this footage on my youtube page. I share footage from all kind of activities on our ocean. Cargo ships in the 1960s till now, oil rigs, fishing vessels, etc. Of course full credit and a link to your KZbin page will be given when I upload. You can find my email on my youtube page. I am looking forward to your reply. Kind regards.

A veritable array of ferries coming and going at Dover Eastern Docks. It must have been around 1991. The Hoverspeed Great Britain is seen arriving and docking at the catamaran berth next to the new Berth 7 that is still under construction. Stena Fantasia departs from Berth 2 with her extraordinary non-standard livery. We catch a glimpse of a Super 4 hovercraft out at sea and then the impressive Stena Invicta arrives from Calais. Pride of Dover follows in as the European Endeavour departs from Berth 4 to Zeebrugge. Stena Invicta then departs from Berth 2 and passes the inbound Fiesta which looks much better than her sister, Stena Fantasia, in the French Sealink livery of the time. The Pride of Hythe follows in from Boulogne as the Prins Albert departs from Berth 5 for Ostend. Other ferries docked at different points in this film were the Pride of Calais and one of the 'jumboised' former Free Enterprise class vessels. Great stuff. Happy memories.

This is Dover as I led the team that demolished pegwell bay in the early 90s demolished by a london company and could be seen on Google earth still showing the bases to the Hydrualic rams which lifted the craft into the air for servicing. Derek Webb

I think people wanted to travel from London to Paris, the Capital cities, rather than between two seaside towns. Air travel became cheap, as did the Channel Tunnel. I think that's all it was.

I haven't been to Dover for quite a few years so seeing these photos came as a surprise to me. I used the hovercraft a lot during the 80s so knew these buildings quite well. How sad to see them reduced to nothing, this really is the end of an era (but then I guess that went when the hovercraft did). Are there any plans to redevelop the site? Thanks for sharing.

That explains why I was confused! It's good that you made a record of this because the Ramsgate terminal disappeared without trace.

some of the angles confuse me, but this looks like demolition of the ferry terminal, not the old Hoverport (at Pegwell Bay) which was demolished some time ago
