Thank you so much for making this video. I’ve been trying all sorts of things to try and stop the kick back on my generator. I’ve wrecked two pull staters, and had numerous sore wrists. Your valve fix was the problem and the machine is quieter and not dangerous to start anymore 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌have a great new year

If I may offer a suggestion in what you said in the first part of your video. The engine is definitely not a two-stroke engine that runs on a four stroke idea. The engine is a 100% four stroke engine that has no oil sump, but just uses the same lubrication as a two-stroke.

You should have rebuilt the original carb. The chinese carbs sometimes have rich jetting.

Why do people replace gummed up carburetor instead of trying to clean out the existing one?
@PNWSmallEngineandLawnАй бұрын
The main reason would be because they don't want to mess it up. Some small carbs are "complicated" and buying a new one is quick and easy.

Neighbor has this same Tecumseh motor, on a generator, and it's leaking oil from where the governor shaft goes through the crankcase cover. Have you ever dealt with that issue or know if it can be fixed? Thanks
@PNWSmallEngineandLawnАй бұрын
I have seen it a few times. The unfortunate part is that it isn't easily fixable. You need to open the motor and put in a bushing on the governor shaft. Just opening requires new gaskets

My dad also tried starting it and it had no kick back and started like normal 2 days later he started it again but it had kick back he told me he didnt have that the first time so is it a valve issue or something else?
@PNWSmallEngineandLawnАй бұрын
It sounds like a valve issue. You should have a compression release. If you don't it might be broken or the exhaust is way out of spec
@vincetimmermans5453Ай бұрын
@@PNWSmallEngineandLawn okay well i bought the engine from a guy who put a 2 stoke exhaust on it i asked him why he said it was the only one he had around so could that be a problem if its not how do i fix the vavles if they dont do compression release

Two places I check for rust….. first is on the two posts that the coil sits on. The second is a heavy build up that adds to your feeler gauge measurement. A lot of good information.

I just bought one of those chipper shredder it was not starting. Had spark added gass in plug hole and in carburetor plus marvel oil in plug hole and gas tank. It fired up with choke on smoking nicely. I put a half tank of gas it fire up. No smoking. Next day it fired up ran for a while and quit running and starting. I found the problem was the gas Cap wasn't venting when it was on tight. It has a rubber ring 1/8" thick the vents in the cap were free. I removed the ring and tightened the cap and it's been running ever since

For what reason would you need to put on a new carburetor when you just need to clean jets What's difference thanks . Seems a waist I wonder if those aftermarket carburetor is as good as genuine honda . I know you can get cheep shit carburetors on cheep china motorcycles .
@PNWSmallEngineandLawn2 ай бұрын
Most of the aftermarket ones are going to work fine. Some may not but make sure you always have a ability to return it. If there was a lot of water in the carb and rust in the bowl that would be a time to replace or there is a lot of corrosion.
@petermoygannon6982 ай бұрын
@PNWSmallEngineandLawn corrosion on outside wouldn't affect it And a little surface rust on inside of bowl I've seen that plenty of times I just like original carburetor . Never had any hassle just blocked jets . Should try spraying old carby with degreaser pressure wash it and clean jets just to see how different it runs .

So you seem to be able to rotate the transmission forward by hand. If I try that on my identical mower it won’t move. The belt was off when I bought the mower so we’ll see if it works with a new belt.

It should move. You might have to clean the shaft that go from the transmission to the wheels.
