Hi Mike- enjoyed the video! We're from Washington and looking into camping and hiking at some of the northern parks in BC. Great views on this hike, liked the purple flower too. Too bad the rain let loose, did your Shelter keep out the rain? If we go we'll definitely have to get something like that!! Nice to meet you, Jennifer 👍👍

With you in the struggle. The insane cost of living here in BC is out of control and it's so hard to get ahead. You've certainly got talents and drive to make these videos showing the beauty of this province, would be amazing if somehow that could work out into a successful career. Hoping you land on your feet and luck starts to turn in your favour. Awesome timelapse at the end BTW.

Great video's Mike! watching your video's over the years got me back into hiking after 10 years, so glad I found 'the path' again haha. Last few years have been rough, society, job layoffs, relationships, everything! no words to describe it I lost everything (like many others) I had a good paying career 10 yrs, now making minimum wage and broke changing jobs every 6 months treated like shit borderline homeless. The outdoors can heal anything and reinforce incredible inner strength and spiritual grounding in ways only nature can do. Thanks for all your hard work bro.

Great to see you doing what you love brother. This is like a flashback I was at Juan de fuca before May long weekend this year. China beach campground wasn’t open and they were doing work on it. Such a beautiful place. Love all the beaches, waterfalls and big beautiful trees. I don’t know what’s rougher the trail or the road.lol Anybody that has driven between Sooke and Port Renfrew knows what I mean. Just love seeing you out there again making a new hiking video Mike. I watched this video when you released it and just yesterday I did the hike myself. My plan was just to day hike to the lake and return. I was feeling good and decided to push further and made it to the point between the two peaks. Looking at the time, there just wasn't enough time to reasonably summit mt Webb so I returned to my car. Was an epic hike and I too plan to return one day. Once again, thanks for the inspiration.

I can relate with my own experience back in 2018 where i felt stuck and didn't want to go to work everyday. I was 34 at that time. Moved to Canada alone, lonely, depress and didn't know what to do for the future. At the end, I quite my IT career which I worked for 11 years. I study Healthcare assistance 7 months program (government funded) at community college and became care giver in 2019. Getting a job is very easy as a care giver as they are in demand. Then during covid, i paved my way to study to become a nurse and now i became a nurse. Now I am pretty happy with the choice I made and don't have worry about jobs in the future. I hope we can sit down for coffee and chat, as I see myself the same thing when I watched this video. I rarely write comment but I just want to do it, in case you might be interested to be in Healthcare career. A few months ago, I reached out to you via email to ask to join hiking with you. But Anyway, I wish you all the best and never give up.
@mountain_man_mike5 ай бұрын
I really appreciate you stopping by and telling your story. I'm glad you got out of a job you disliked or hated and started something that you enjoy. Not sure that becoming a nurse is something that I'd want to do. Going to school just doesn't seem to work out for me. As far as hiking requests, I usually won't respond. The only exception to this, is the non-existent women blowing up my DMs LOL. Don't take anything personal, I just prefer to go alone. I've had quite a few bad experiences through life, with people not matching fitness levels etc, leading to bad days out in the bush. For all I know, you're in better shape then me? What part of Vancouver do you live in? And, what are the longest and toughest trips you've done?
@TunTunVlogsCanada5 ай бұрын
@mountain_man_mike I am slightly younger than you but you look tougher than me. I am more like relax-moderate pace, I like to enjoy beautiful scenery, take photo and video rather rushing to the summit and return. As I don't have car, i have to join hiking groups, so they are usually day hike and the longer one are panorama ridge, mount harvey, Mt macfarlane and wedgemount lake. I live near rupert station. I totally understand you prefer to go alone and wish you have a good one.
@mountain_man_mike5 ай бұрын
Okay, Rupert Station is very close to where I live in North Burnaby area. We can try to plan something soon like a coffee you mentioned, or even try a hike somewhere we both want to do.

I feel your pain Mike. Depression is a bitch. Working a job isn’t the answer. The government making us working class slaves. We are taught to get a career and work a good job get ahead but that doesn’t really even exist in today’s society. Even if you’re making $30 an hour it’s not enough. life is too expensive now you need multiple streams of income. You need to do your own hustle, your own business, selling stuff, whatever it takes. I was depressed growing up and was very negative. I try to be positive now and good things happen. The power of positive thinking is amazing. I met my girlfriend on match and trust me it took thousands of emails and way too many dates until I met her. I was relentless on my pursuit. I understand it’s very hard to be positive when most things are negative in life. You’re going to find a nice woman and money coming in I know it’s going to happen. Focus on the good and build from there. Keep doing your beautiful hiking videos we all miss them. Love you buddy ❤

Beautiful and truthful response. Always easier said then done when it comes to positive thinking, especially when bringing mental illness, depression etc. into the mix, as you know. But, I'll try. Thank you for the thoughtful response Derek 🙌

Mike, I know from experience that most people have a dark point in their lives. I also know from experience that with time, things get better and sometimes right before your eyes. I know you aren't looking for advice but I just want to say, find gratitude - find something everyday to be grateful for, no matter how small. I think this video is courageous and the fact that you are being completely honest, could be the turning point where things get better. You have inspired me several time to take on more challenging hikes and backpacking trips and I am sure that there are many more like me that would say the same. Hang in there Mike, you got this!
