Jason was one of best riders in the sport , and father Phil was also a top rider grandad Neil was a good rider and I believe a good mechanic .

One of the all time champions of the sport wasn't even mentioned in this video. Barry Watt. He was one of the first drivers and still to this day is involved in the sport. Barry is my uncle, I saw him just two weeks ago and he is still working at 89.

Those were the days OPEN COCKPIT MIDGETS (SPEEDWAY). NOTHING BEATS THOSE MAIN EVENTS AT THE SYDNEY ROYALE. VERY BRAVE DRIVERS IN 60s. HOW MORE DRIVERS WERE NOT KILLED IS BEYOND ME. NO ROLL CAGES THEN. GOSH I MISS THOSE YEARS. WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE THE ACTION IN THAT ERA. THANK YOU Mr SHERWOOD (PROMOTER) FOR STAGING THOSE EVENTS. WELL DONE JOHN. FROM A SPEEDWAY FAN. Uunfortunatly I also remember the fatalities, I personally knew a couple of them[ through my father] and ofcourse knew of the rest [here in SA] No rollbar was suicide!! Rollbar and harness was ,,, ok. Harness and a cage, still injured many, concussion was a major consideration. And I saw drivers dump hard, make the feature and do ok. Reflex actions as they clearly were not with it.
