“Estoy escuchando el concierto para violín de Chaikovski que apenas conozco, porque hasta hace poco rechazaba obstinadamente a este compositor, por considerarlo demasiado sentimental y facilón. Pero, con el paso de los años, uno se vuelve más tolerante ahora descubro mucha belleza en él. Mientras sonaba la parte central la obra - la Canzonetta (Andante) -, he recordado algo que Sviatoslav Richter contó en el curso de una entrevista con Bruno Monsaingeon: durante la guerra, fue a parar al Leningrado sitiado, donde tenía que dar un concierto. Encontró una ciudad donde había tanta gente que moría bajo las bombas y los obuses, y en invierno por añadidura de inanición y de hambre, que a lo largo de los muros de las casas y en los puentes de los canales yacían durante largo tiempo los cadáveres congelados que nadie retiraba. Y en aquella ciudad mísera y atormentada que disponía de una red radiofónica extensísima (una peculiaridad de la Unión Soviética: altavoces en todas las calles y la posibilidad de transmitir a cada momento el estado de ánimo del caudillo a las almas de los ciudadanos), en todos los megáfonos se derramaron las notas del movimiento lento del Concierto para Violín, la Canzonetta (Andante). No me lo puedo quitar de la cabeza. La contraposición entre la heroica ciudad moribunda, donde los ancianos y enfermos pagaban con sus vidas las decisiones de las autoridades militares, y el parsimonioso canto del violín, el contraste de las calles lúgubres, las ruinas y el hedor con esta dulce cantinela, no me dejan tranquilo. De todos los postes, de todos y cada uno de los megáfonos, esta preciosa melodía. En medio de un paisaje de muerte”.

This is lovely piece of music by tchaikovsky. I find his music reflective, this definitely should be more known, first heard an extract of this in the film the music lovers, never forgot it.
