I have the same Kicker subwoofer, and this model is pure trash. The way the cone and spider connectors are manufactured is half-assed for that 4 ohm was pretty weak. I regret buying this subwoofer. I’ve just blown mine last week.

So I have a speaker I'm trying to fix. My question is: That yellow part. Is that supposed to be glued in place? I ask because I just repaired the outer rim part by gluing a new ring...but when I tried it out in the car, it still rattled. I investigated and found that if I held that yellow part in place it didn't seem to make that awful noise. So, I'm going to glue that part down unless someone tells me otherwise. It's an old speaker and I'm just guessing that if that part is supposed to be fastened into place, maybe the heat and then blasting it loud caused the glue to let go years ago?

Sorry for my late reply!! The yellow part you’re referring to on my sub, is known as the “spider”.. it’s definitely supposed to move up and down freely, as it’s connected to the voice coil. The OUTSIDE perimeter of the spider needs to be fastened down, yes.. but not the whole thing 🙂

It was that stupid little piece of glue! 😂 You would swear by hearing it in person, that someone put pennies in my box 🤣 Also, in case you (or anyone else who sees this) are wondering.. Shoot, if I could rewind time about 15 months, and record every stage of the “bad” sound as it progressed, I’d sure do it for ya, friend.. however, I do have to ask..when’s the last time you saw a video of any subwoofer setup, that sounded “good” after being recorded by a cellphone mic? Even the cleanest sounding systems, will sound like distorted/blown subs at even mild performance levels. I had that in mind when making this video, and figured I would just try to help DIY people who know a little bit about what they’re doing, instead of posting a sound clip of anything.. because then I would just be another KZbin video, with an overloaded comment section about how my “system sounds like crap”, by people who don’t know that the mics can’t pick up the true sound 😅🤷🏼‍♂️ Thanks for checkin’ it out anyways, though 🤙🏼

Hey Coby.. If you have the sub disconnected, and out of the box, you can hold it in your hands, and then turn the sub in all different directions and even shake it a little, and listen for any noises of trash bouncing around. If you hear something moving/bouncing around in there, then make a small hole and try to shake out any pieces that’s in there. Also, for the record, I drive my subs hard, and they’re still sounding great to this day. So putting that small hole had no negative effects 😎🤙🏼

Great Work!!! How did you set it up so that you have to press the $0.25 button in order to play? If I may ask.
@vipbrigade
@vipbrigade 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Carlos!! If you run Launchbox, there is a settings menu, where you can assign ANY button you want, to perform any way you want. Since I made an arcade with actual buttons, instead of just using a keyboard, I was able to assign those 25 cent buttons, as a “key” on a keyboard, so to speak. That’s what the usb encoders I listed in the video are for 🙂 They’re basically mini keyboards that can talk to the computer in the same way as a normal computer keyboard. Then you just open up the button assignment menu, and press the corresponding button, to whatever function it says on screen, and it locks it in. That may all sound confusing (or you may already be familiar with Launchbox) but that’s how I’ve done it. If you’re NOT using Launchbox, I’m not real sure how you could do it, as this is my first (and only method) building an arcade. If you DO have Launchbox, and can’t find the settings, let me know, and I’ll hop on my arcade, and give you a step by step how-to 😎

my sub was doing okay a couple days ago and now the bass goes in and out really quiet not working then it works when it’s really loud its crunchy and just really bad. The sub is about 4 years old. Is the problem the subwoofer or the chords how do I figure this out
@vipbrigade
@vipbrigade 2 жыл бұрын
That sounds more like an issue with the sub itself 😕 Sounds like the symptoms of a blown subwoofer.. Try this test.. with your stereo and amp OFF.. put your pointer finger in the center of the sub face.. push inward on the sub a few times (not too hard, but hard enough to make it “flex” inward) and let it move back and forth. If you hear a “scratchy” or “crunchy” sound, and/or feel some scratchy resistance, instead of it moving back and forth smoothly, then you probably have a blown voice coil. Try that out, and let me know what you find!

You’re welcome, Rob!! I know it’s a long winded video, but I really wanted to be thorough! P.s.. A little tip! Anytime I order new tins for the cellar, I go ahead and make the jar labels if it’s a new blend! Then when I have enough to not waste a lot of paper, I print them out and keep them in my tin with the other labels in the video. That way when I crack open a new tin, the matching label is good to go! 😎 Let me know how it turns out, and if you have ANY questions, let me know. Nothin’ better than a nice set of labeled jars 😁

I have a 30 years old car subwoofer which has started distorting the sound, even at moderate volumes. Should I check if there 's some rubber rot?
@vipbrigade
@vipbrigade 2 жыл бұрын
Never hurts to check things over! Having a sub with that much age on it is awesome, but definitely opens the door for multiple issues. Could be a bad/blown voice coil, or a rotted spider, etc. Have a peak all around the woofer, with it out if the enclosure. If everything looks intact, them delicately press straight down on the cone, and listen for a “scratchy” sound when it goes down, and when it comes back up. Just go back and forth with it, and see if it moves smoothly and freely, or if it’s scratchy and feels like it’s grinding. Voice coil will usually be the issue in that instance. Check back if you’d like, and let me know what you find!
@Simone-qr6mq

@@vipbrigade I 've checked out my subwoofer 's woofers and they were cosmetically OK. However, for now, I am using my new head unit without a subwoofer, and I 'm having an hard time getting some midbass without letting the mids and highs getting too loud for me. The fact that my car has a 1400 cc, three cylinders diesel-powered engine doesn 't help at all! My new head unit (Pioneer AVH-Z9200DAB) has 4V pre outs, while my 30 years old amp has 2V inputs. Also, there might be a wrong connection with the remote cable, which doesn' t allow the subwoofer amplifier to turn off! I would really like to set all up properly, in order to avoid distortion, since driving around without a subwoofer is not fun, in my case! Btw: the woofers of my Macrom sub were still "Macrom by Morel" branded!

I think I might be experiencing the same prob. When I tap on my subwoofer by hand I’m hearing like a tinging noise I took the sub out of the box and looked around as didn’t see anything hanging off the sub I noticed that there are some holes on the underside of the sub similar to the hole you cut out but almost as if someone drilled them out all around the diameter . Do subwoofers typically come like that from factory or are they all sealed up one solid piece in reference to the same area you cut that hole.? Just wondering if I may have the same problem mine slightly sounds like like a penny hitting metal or two pennies hitting together. Idk 🤷‍♂️ wish I could explain the noise through text . When played mine almost sounds like a it’s kind of blown it still puts out bass but kind of makes a buzzing sound on them deep low sounds almost as if a piece of paper slapping around as well I’m gonna go dig in and try and see if I see anything similar that’s strange though .
