Thanks for jumping on this so quick. A week ago today I’d never heard of DeepSeek but then a non-tech person asked us for help in downloading it. I’ve spent quite a bit of time over the last few days educating myself about it. There are a couple of topics regarding DeepSeek that I would like to chat about, including cybersecurity concerns. I have to see if I can catch the live show for once and maybe we’ll have the opportunity to do so.

You're welcome. I do aim to help in a timely manner, just need to balance having the time to process why we care. Always happy to answer questions here or on the live shows, and Paterons have access to a zoom link to book time.

Wow, this was extremely painful to watch. First, DDM is not new. It came out at WWDC 2021. In fact all major MDM vendors either use DDM behind the scenes by default, or there is a feature switch where you can turn it on. Second, this guy clearly doesn't know what he's talking about. He sounds like he read a Wikipedia article on it, them knighted himself an expert on the subject.

I like the Spanish version. It's so cool, and you fully disclose. I agree with your reasoning on extending the content to be delivered to more audiences. But English AI Dave is a little creepy to me. I can understand the use cases you mention, and they make sense. But if I saw the show like that and had not read the disclosures, it would likely be a turn off, especially if I were a first-time viewer. If you were to use English AI Dave, I'd make the disclosure part of the show and say why you are doing it that way for that particular show and mention that it's the exception and not the rule.
@MSPRadio13 күн бұрын
Thanks for the thoughtful response. I think that is where i'm landing too... English AI Dave is useful for "emergencies", and I'm going to disclose if I am using that version within the English show. "I'm really sick and have lost my voice" seems like a reasonable reason. The Spanish version is over on the El Espanol version of the channel now, which has disclosures on every episode and in the show description. It's been growing too!

Focusing on Client satisfacción and no in tickets or timesheets, how you can control and improve the profitability of this business? The key to success behind MsPS is the operational model behind the hour usage of the clients.
@MSPRadio19 күн бұрын
Agreed…. The key is that you don’t have to expose that to clients. Your focus is on customer satisfaction, and you shield the operations from the clients. I would argue that the key to success is delivering results to clients, not hours nor tickets. You measure results the way they do - satisfaction, and beyond that, operational impact and revenue.

1) cloud failures happen a lot 2) privacy is nonexistent in the cloud I think there is going to be a swing back to on-prem or at least hybrid
@MSPRadioАй бұрын
Thanks for the response. I'd offer that failures happen to all kinds of systems, and matching customers to solutions remains the name of the game. "On prem failures happen a lot too".... and thus, compare solution types. And as for privacy, replace "in the cloud" with "when connected to the internet", because on prem suffers the same problem when connected to the internet. You are correct in that some businesses are using moer hybrid systems. The key is that hybrid can be more expensive too, as one has to replicate data or sync between two systems. Thanks for the insight -- those that help customers navigate these questions is the value.
@notsure787417 күн бұрын
Cloud can be far more costly than on prem for many things. They don't make money by leasing you resources on hardware for less than it costs to operate. They make money by either adding value in some way, or by fractionalizing costs. I can't recommend a 5 person company manage an on prem mailserver, that's crazy talk. Get Exchange for $5 / user. But I also can't recommend that an agency with 40tb of ad creative being accessed by 20 dudes working on them use a cloud storage platform. All that data has to pass through their crappy internet connection that everyone is sharing - that 10g network with a NAS on it starts looking really good. As for privacy - that most certainly IS a concern, and the concerns are FAR greater than with on prem. You're one disgruntled employee away from all your data being posted on the darkweb. Not even YOUR employee - possibly some employee in Bangladesh, where you have no hope of any legal recourse. Google is listening to your Android phone 100% of the time. Cox Media said the quiet part out loud - but Google swept this under the rug, tried to lay the blame at Cox's feet, and basically disowned them - but they're still listening on your microphone 24/7. nypost.com/2024/09/03/business/marketing-firm-spies-on-you-through-your-phones-microphone-report/ Ring will give your videos to the police without your permission, without a subpoena, or court order, or warrant ... just because a local policeman asked for it. Of course since they got caught they have said they pinkie promise not to do it again (unless theres a really good reason, or they just feel like it): www.eff.org/deeplinks/2022/07/ring-reveals-they-give-videos-police-without-user-consent-or-warrant GM was selling your precise location, and driving behavior data without your consent. This, is after some in the industry tried to say that Right to Repair would give independent shops access to this data and your stalker could get your precise location ... as they themselves were selling your precise location and driving data to private entities. But again, they got caught and promise they won't do it again. www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2025/01/ftc-takes-action-against-general-motors-sharing-drivers-precise-location-driving-behavior-data

Microsoft is consistently getting worse YoY - I don't see it as the future even if they radically drop prices. I routinely find myself complaining about ms teams, intune, microsoft changes, blue screen of deeths, needing to edit registry keys, win updates, etc. The competition (and far superior alternative) is just combining stable fantastic cloud services together to achieve the desired IT outcome.

Historically endpoint meant workstations, and probably workstations + servers. When we talk about endpoints per technician is that the number we’re counting, or do we also include the network/non-user devices that are included in our managed services plans (e.g., router/firewall, switches, APs, battery backups, NAS appliances, and printers)?
@MSPRadio2 ай бұрын
I went and checked with Peter, and he let me know that "The correct answer is the second one, any devices that are covered under their managed service plan." Hope this helps!
