In case anyone is watching this video in 2020, I thought I would share my experience. We installed a rain barrel this year from one of the roof gutters on our home. When the first storm came (admittedly, a long rain storm), the overflow hose was not able to empty as fast as the barrel was filling up. In less than two hours, the 60 gallon barrel was overflowing and after two more hours of rain, the area surrounding the barrel - and next to the house - was flooded. To address the problem, we are ordering a diversion gutter piece that can be manually switched from emptying either into the rain barrel or the traditional drainage system away from the house (ideally, to a rain garden.) Another option is to install multiple rain barrels and link them together for additional capacity. Also, had I measured the size of our roof and calculated the amount of runoff prior to installing the barrel, I would have known that the barrel would fill up to capacity in certain storms. Oh well, lesson learned.

I built a floating wetland using this video. THANK YOU! I posted photos on my instagram found here: instagram.com/p/B8UoTz5gzsT/?igshid=1ss6jn5jdcity I unfortunately followed the directions on the can for the marine foam. Mix only for 12 seconds NOT 45 seconds as instructed on the can. After 45 seconds it was too thick to pour through the poly fiber. I ended up with too much foam and the island wasn’t sitting deep enough in water. I ended up having to gut the top of the poly fiber so i could add more weight (soil, plants). It ended up working out and I’ll be checking on the island tomorrow. Hopefully it’s not at the bottom of the pond. ha

Thanks for the video instruction. Is there a reason to use the white/cream colored Poly-Flo filter material vs. the black, as the black is UV stabilized? Also, how much flotation foam per square foot of Poly-Flo filter material?

the system needs some time to establish = plants grow roots and bacteria grows.

U can use alocasia, colocasia, canna, etc. Try to observe what plants grow in wetlands around you.. I wetlands have salty waters then u can use any type of mangrove tree.

Thank you so much for the excellent video. I did one barrel and thought I was doing a fair job. Now I know that I am using the correct paint but definitely will really take my time to create some fun garden art. I have 3 more barrels to go . It's design time. :) Sandi
