Bravo! The theater looks wonderful; the look, ambiance, and music take the audience back to the Golden Age of Vaudeville. We look forward to seeing the house. Our very best! Toni Morrell & David Dial

Quite a bit of truth and depth to this song. And it rambles on like life itself.

Don't understand this at all "An Evening with Sigmund Romberg" why include J.Strauss ? Sidmund Romberg wrote some wonderful music enough to fill a 2 hour tribute comfortably.. The singers good vocailly but little else to commend them when it comes to interpretation of the lyrics and emotional connection non existant. Sadly no longer with us, listen to Barbara Cook sing this type of music, everything these vocalists lack when it comes to emotional involvement and interpretation of the lyrics she had in spades.

This is a montage of a recreation of Sigmund Romberg’s touring pops concerts in the 1940s. The first half of the program was light classics, the second half was Romberg compositions.

What an utterly delightful waltz-song! One can see why Herbert himself thought so highly of this score. Thanks to the performers who get everything exactly right - the conductor's ideal tempo, and the soloist's natural, unforced singing that so eloquently captures the gentle, wistful nature of the melody. And all in Herbert's own orchestration, as it should be. Apparently the Canton Comic Opera Company is no more, which would appear to be a great loss to lovers of operetta and Victor Herbert. Thanks to them for sharing this gem on KZbin!

Luis Rivera that would've been the greatest idea ever seeing as how the musical extravaganza of the wizard of oz is finally bought back to the stage after almost 80 years after its debut all the way back in 1907

It was fun to watch this. Most of the songs were unfamiliar, which was excellent, because it shows Irving Berlin's great versatility and remarkable talent. One could listen all day to songs he wrote that we have never heard of, but which were all very good.

Not sure if you're still looking for a recording of this 4 months later, but the Comic Opera Guild makes a boatload of recordings of operetta scores including Algeria/Rose of Algeria (though only with two pianos as musical accompaniment) and has info on how to order these CDs on their website.

Holly Hobgoblin Thanks for responding. I've been to the COG website quite a few times and while I've been tempted, I'm just not interested in two-piano arrangements, especially of Herbert's scores. He was such a master of vocal writing and orchestration. I'll just have to win a pot and donate to CCO.

+jimsher9880 We agree with you completely! Recordings of these works with piano don't capture how Herbert meant these scores to be heard. The Canton Comic Opera Company is dedicated to producing all our operettas with full orchestras playing the original orchestrations.
