I just posted the Turnstyles track too and whilst after a few practice runs I'm sure I could clean it all, the first run down is the true reality test. Hope I get to go back sometime and ride more of Nelson - it was such a fun spot....having one run of turnstiles just isn't enough.

@on1ytheb3st9 ай бұрын
I would run a differential between front and rear pressure. For most people running like a 2.5/2.4 width tubeless tire on a 30mm inner rim width wheel (no tire insert) have an optimum pressure of around 22-24 psi for the front and 25-27 psi rear. The majority of your body weight is over the rear tire so you need to support it with a higher pressure, the front needs the most traction possible and doesn't need to support as much weight, hence why you'd drop it.
@NextLevelRiding9 ай бұрын
Yeah I was going to do that next actually! I was planning on increasing the rear by 1 psi each run and then until I find the sweet spot. Ideally though your weight should be even between the two wheels, but the increased pressure is likely required because some riders find it more difficult to absorb the rear wheel hits than front wheel hits. Plus the rear wheel doesn’t usually move out the way as easily as the front. Lots of fun testing though. Thanks for the comment.
@on1ytheb3st9 ай бұрын
@@NextLevelRiding I would argue the rear wheel innately gets out of the way more than the front. It's linkage driven with a predetermined arc moving generally up and forward. There is more sensitivity in suspension system like that. Forks on the other hand have quite a bit more resistance to impulse like stiction and its path is linearly back towards the rider meaning the wheel stays behind said obstacle longer than the rear unless of course an external force is enacted on the bike like if the rider pulls up on the bars. Since most of your body weight is over the rear enacting at the BB (this is a fact regardless of how you alter your body position, within reason), the frame around this junction wants to remain moving in its current direction. Therefor when an impulse force from an object actuates the linkage, polar moment of inertia says the sections of the frame with more weight will want to remain at its current trajectory and carry momentum while the suspension does all the work absorbing the force vector. The reason it may feel as if the rear wheel gets out of the way less is because when there is a large enough impulse to alter the current vector and trajectory of the bike and you; for the same reasons mentioned earlier, you will be bucked more and feel more. You body can absorb a lot of movement with your arms in the front and it doesn't effect how your body is supported, but your legs and feet are supporting the entire system and like I mentioned, the majority of your body is over the rear, its both a positive and a negative. Its why heavy bikes are always critiqued to be able to hold speed over rough terrain but are hard to get up to speed. Its why linkage forks have become a thing as well. For me its less about not being able to absorb hits and more about not blowing up my rear wheel on crazy hits and drops. Even with the differential in pressures I wear out my rear wheels much faster than the front just bottoming out the tire on the wheel. Thinking about carbon next but I don't like tire inserts so hoping they can take the rim dings
@NextLevelRiding9 ай бұрын
@@on1ytheb3stdepends on the suspension design really. In a well designed bike I guess they should both get out the way equally but with regards to pressures so much can influence those choices. Including rolling resistance and the need for faster pedalling. The kinematics of bike suspension is a fascinating and deep topic that I feel can’t be flushed out in a KZbin comment but I appreciate your involvement and interest in the subject. I’m looking forward to more testing. I know the rear wheel usually takes more harsh impacts than the front and that’s the reason most people have it slightly higher. Including the added forces when pushing through and exiting a berm but this could also be managed by suspension set up too I would imagine. Anyway. Happy riding.
