The bikini is so cool! I have been determined to knit a swimsuit for a couple of years now, despite being warned against it by some older women who can remember original knitted swimwear 😂 Luckily, I am stubborn enough to do it anyway. I was thinking it might be quite nice for wild swimming? I actually have that exact pattern that you showed a picture of: the blue and white, striped halter swimsuit. I have some sock yarn that I'm hoping will work well🤞

Thank you! Oh it's good to be in like minded company 😉 I was also told not to but I ignore anyone who tells me such things haha Oh the halter neck looks so good... I'm almost tempted to start it soon so I can take it to Sweden but I have to remember that I don't need to buy more yarn and it can wait. I'll live vicariously through you for now 😉 Please show me whenever you do cast on 👙

I’m so enjoying your videos! How awful about the moth, I have a bad phobia of them so what you described is like a horror film for me. Very brave project, and the FO turned out fab 👍 You can't tell all the drama by the FO. I was wondering about your decreases, they looked jagged on the sides. Is that because you were not doing them fully fashioned like you described later? I was recently trying to figure out how to do k2tog and ssk on the purl side since I was knitting some double sided lace. Decreases on the reverse side seems like something that needs to be unlearned and relearned for knitting machine.
@emilykatemadethis
@emilykatemadethis 2 күн бұрын
I can't remember which one is the fully fashioned... I watched a couple of youtubes on decreases and just went with that one. I can't believe I made the whole thing and only realised afterwards I'd been casting them all off instead of decreasing lol woops!! Yeah... I am really struggling with the fact that you only ever work from the purl side. Reversing everything in a pattern is still hard for me to grasp, but I do hope it becomes more natural in time. You'll have to let me know how you get on :)
@petramanos
@petramanos 2 күн бұрын
@@emilykatemadethis fully fashioned is when the increases and decreases are done with increase and decrease stitches. Not fully fashioned is adding and subtracting stitches on the sides. My knitting machine manual says to get used to the adding and subtracting stitches method first but I'm keen to try shaping asap because I don't like the idea of hand seaming with the jagged edges.
@emilykatemadethis
@emilykatemadethis 2 күн бұрын
@petramanos oh yeah... That rings a bell. I do both of those things depending on what I'm doing and where I am in the pattern. The fully fashioned decrease is what I will do when I want to decrease from now int..the other one is more tight and bind off-like for me.

Another thought from me, I struggle to make my sleeve caps puffy so we must be sewing them differently. I lay the sleeve cap and garment out sideways and then line it all up and then put clips every few inches. Then I seam clip to clip. This evenly distributes the fabric throughout the armscye rather than having fabric to gather at the top.
@emilykatemadethis
@emilykatemadethis 10 күн бұрын
Well on every other sleeve head I've done, I've not had the same issues as with this one... and this one definitely through me off, being shorter in height than the others. I usually sew the forearm up and pop the sleeve into the jumper and then use clips at the bottom where the sleeve/body bind offs are and then evenly clip up each side until the top. Then i distribute the fabric that's usually either square (like my bow and chevron top) or the puff that I already made. It does still require a bit of patience to get it to look nice but his one however was just a mess haha I basically sew my knits like I sew the clothes I sew.

I love it! I think your crochet loops were just much too long, you don't have to give up on that strategy. The loop only needs to be as large as a single home button hole would have been. It looks great without buttons too 👍

Ironically enough I purchased the machine (with ribber) so that it could do the ribbing for me because knitting 4 inches of ribbing over 200+ stitches hurts my hands a lot AND takes about 5-7 days for me. But alas... I can't figure out how to get the ribber to work haha but I do actually love the look of mock rib. But you're right... for the pockets I could (and might still) take them off and do them by hand. They're not so long thankfully. I'll see where the mood takes me :)

Your cardigan looks great, such a lovely colour too. I’d be tempted not to add buttons as it looks just right as it is. I’ve just finished the ‘ two colour jumper with a fair isle leaf yoke’ which I know you have too and at the end of the pattern it says in the ‘ professional finish’ the seams can be sewn by machine, so I think this may have been quite usual back in the day and makes perfect sense for a fine yarn. Come the cooler weather it’ll be a joy to wear 😊

Hi Emily, well done, once again. If you want a straightforward drafting book, have a look at The Knitting Architect, it’s a classic. You might try snaps on the band, with knit interfacing in the fold. Prym makes some just for knits, or pairs of clasps as a Norwegian cardigan might have. I think Prym also makes them. It’s unfortunate about your hand, I like to crochet slip stitch my set in sleeves in place using a fine sock yarn, because of the nylon. You continue to inspire me, thanks so very much
@emilykatemadethis
@emilykatemadethis 11 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tip! I will have to look that up. I think I have some knit interfacing that you iron on... although sewn on may be better.... my snaps are plastic and I'm pretty sure they'd look awful haha but perhaps I can find some that aren't bright green and they'd look a lot better... I'll have to try them out on a swatch... the idea of doing it wrong is frightening... *gulp* Yes, crochet slip stitch is great isn't it :) well.. aside from the pain... I really do wish my hands liked crochet... there are so many amazing things out there I want to crochet :)

@@emilykatemadethis I have done few times on top down sleeves. You start by picking up stitches all around the armhole. Knit one row. Then determine the top stitches considering the shoulder-seam the middle of these stitches (in my very recent project was 20 sts out of the 76 total stitches ) then you knit to include those stitches plus one and turn for a shortrow. Purl back to the beginning of these stitches plus one stitches and turn. You continue in that fashion working the (double stitch in case of German shortrow, or the wrapped stitch in the wrap and turn method, or any other method in my case I did shadow wrap on the very recent project) until you have like 5 un wrapped stitches on either side and resume working in the round. You can adjust these numbers based on your gauge off course

the gauge was correct, I think 8st.. 9... I can't remember now, but I think maybe the leg was longer than I usually make them.... but I say this... I've made a pair for a mans foot and had not issues with the yarn running out so I have no idea... it just somehow ate more yarn... *shrug* knitting machines eat yarn differently it seems...! I shall just have to make more and see what happens with different brands :)

Instead of ribbing, not just when one has issue with knitting ribbing, garter actually makes a SURPRISINGLY nice sock edge (e.g. Troll socks by Maja Karlsson). I had the same issue trying to make a sock on my LK150, they were too big even though I used similar yarn to the ones I knit by hand and the same number of stitches - I usually knit a 56 stitch sock, so I think I will have to reduce my tension and maybe use a kid's pattern instead! I'm glad you found the cast on rag helpful too, I think you get a better finish that way, as the rag holds the weights and the first few rows don't get damaged, or distorted by them.

It's baffling isn't it?! I don't think I ever noticed the difference so much between different sock brands. I just knit them all with 2.25mm needles and they fit, but they somehow behave differently when knitted flat. I tried another pair with 56 st and they are fine, so... I'm blaming the yarn haha
