Nice battle! Question: when I’ve played GJS I often get the situation where my mortars won’t fire as the enemy is too close… that didn’t seem to be a problem here?
@STRIKEplaysCloseCombat4 күн бұрын
The minimum and maximum range of weapons is moddable. In GJS, the minimum fire range for 8cm mortars is 200m. In Radzymin, the minimum fire range for 8cm and 12cm mortars is lower; 80m, I believe.
@martinashley96643 күн бұрын
It was the British mortars - firing across the road less than 50m away I think.
@STRIKEplaysCloseCombat2 күн бұрын
@@martinashley9664 Sorry. I don't know why I thought we were talking about a Radzymin battle. That was a light mortar. In GJS they have a shorter minimum range. I use 5cm mortars often and their minimum range is about 40m i think. They are very useful teams, great for getting close and taking out guns and for laying accurate smoke rounds, which they have a lot of.

I was nervous about this one. Tough entry. Once the allies get their hooks in though this turns into a nightmare for the Germans to hold. Have you joined our Discords? I cannot recall. I have started tracking all my GCs there so you can see deploy pics, and see the context of the battle within the campaign. I'd love to do that for each video...give a brief situation/synopsis for each battle...but just haven't committed the time yet.

@@STRIKEplaysCloseCombat Hey man yeah we are friends on discord, I've been pointing out that you are doing a lot of work posting these videos. I think the campaign mode it's a little too much. Wouldn't be better and easier for you to post just random 1 vs 1 battles? No context. No background, just similar or same battle conditions? I think that way would attract more new youtube viewers and players for the game.
@skynetonline3 ай бұрын
What a bloody battle, this is how my countrymen fought and died in ww2. The sniper team dealt a great damage at the beginning of the battle and I don't think that they were neutralized. Ok this is the part of the game that I don't understand. The americans clearly took more victory locations but the game decided that the german won. That doesn't make any sense. The americans lost way more men and and one tank at the crossroad but that part of the map at the end was clearly under american control. I think this is a accurate and sad reenactment of how the allies won ww2, with a lot of sacrifices. Peace and honor to all of them 💔. Great game thank you for sharing guys.
@STRIKEplaysCloseCombat2 ай бұрын
I thought the Germans still had 5 victory locations and the Allies only had 4. I do believe VLs can be worth different amounts of points as well which might throw off that victory determination. I counted this as a German win in my mind because this is the weak static group that is outposted on this map. They only had a couple anti-tank guns and no armor. I feel like I should have captured Buron or Hermanville exits or wiped them off the map, but Gallows stopped me on all counts. And that sniper, grrr! lol. Glad you enjoy watching. Many more coming.
@kibbeystovall75465 ай бұрын
That was awful to watch. Your use of your armor was poor. Your placement of your troops across the canal from Gondree Cafe meant you could not effectively hold your bridgehead. Your tanks need to redeploy to give their guns something to shoot at. The German TDs, while having powerful guns, have NO armor and you will one-shot kill them. Don't drive your tanks in front of their tanks or guns. Stay behind hedgerows until you can get the first shot. Use your numbers to overwhelm them one by one, then redirect them to crush the enemy infantry. Your indecisive moves for the sole Sherman you had on the north bank meant you didn't clear the German infantry from the hedgerows like you needed to before your infantry was destroyed. You failed to put that Sherman into an ambush position where it might kill one or both of the Nashorns threatening you. I didn't remember the game giving the Germans a second artillery strike with 2 minutes to go. Only at the end did I realize you were playing head to head. Makes it much harder, doesn't it?
@STRIKEplaysCloseCombat5 ай бұрын
I was playing a strong veteran human player. It makes it a completely different game. No amount of AI handicap can compare to even a rookie human player. I am surprised how you confidently chastised my strategy (rather rudely) without knowing for sure even what you were watching. I can't say this is my proudest performance, but this is a tricky map against a strong player. I definitely hesitated with my plan across the river, but that was a very vulnerable position. My battlegroups are trapped here and low on fuel and ammo so I have to be careful how much I risk. About my tank placement...any tank with LOS to the enemy hedges across the river stands to be killed by a hidden ATG. You can see how instantly my one tank was killed by a single shot from an ATG when I let it move. I also risk receiving fire from German TDs breaching the hedges. This map is much more dangerous than you seem to realize and difficult to get safe angles of fire. My Sherman across the river had about a 5m circle it could move around safely in. Clearing enemy infantry with a single pinned tank and cowering infantry escorts is easier said than done, especially at that range when German troops carry 30m Panzerfausts. While those self-propelled pak40 tanks can be killed in one shot, it is not guaranteed, as you can see by my failed shots on them. Could I have played this better? Absolutely. But hindsight is 20/20 and even concrete plans have a way of going to shit. Despite 1000s of hours of H2H Close Combat, I admit I still make mistakes and hesitate, but I have yet to lose a campaign to anyone in this mod from either side. It is a short list, but I like to think I am match for just about anyone in this game. I would be very interested in playing you H2H if you think my tactics are poor.
@kibbeystovall75465 ай бұрын
@@STRIKEplaysCloseCombat Yes, i didn't realize until the end you were up against a human player. Makes the degree of difficulty much higher. He played his armor both more aggressively and more carefully, though, and he sited his AT guns very well. When you drove your southern Sherman in FRONT of the hedge rather than behind the hedge....1000s of hours, you say? I know this map is hard to win as the British- the German units are very powerful. But I think you had to risk that northern Sherman to start to clear hedgerows while you still had infantry to support you. They were only minutes away from capturing the Cafe and then just dropping Panzerfausts on you. Did you have mortar teams that might have destroyed the German AT gun(s) and if you got lucky the Nashorns?
@STRIKEplaysCloseCombat5 ай бұрын
@kibbeystovall7546 The Sherman lost in the south was definitely lost to not being careful because I wasn't monitoring his movement and he crept too far into the N-S road. Monitoring every unit is difficult in H2H play. Moving behind the hedge wouldnt have mattered because it still would have ended up in the N-S road LOS, only with an added risk of tracking itself crossing the hedge. You can claim what you think the north Sherman should have done all day, but he could have died instantly just as easy had I moved him earlier. Any exposure to that hedge could have been death by faust, ATG or TD. Same if he went the other way. Even when we started that Sherman came under fire from an ATG. Luckily we were able to smother it with fire that I had trained on that lower part of the hedge (the only part I could not get defilade from). There is literally no "clearing those hedges" as his entire battlegroup had free access to shift to those hedges. So unless you expected me to wipe out all 15 of his units with two pinned infantry and a tank, I am not sure what you thought was going to happen there. It was just a small contingency trying to not give up a hard fought gain from last battle. I simply couldn't afford to risk more than that, nor was there room for many more teams to deploy there. Our main objective here is to keep the enemy from crossing that bridge until our allies can break in from the north, and we did that. Holding the bridge was a bonus. A bonus we earned, I think, by lasting as long as we did north of the river. We each lost two support units, and allies only lost 8 more soldiers. Not a bad outcome, especially since allies can afford to lose more. I had light mortars. Mortars can kill guns sometimes but it is a dice roll like anything else and range and ammo matter greatly. They spent most of their ammo knocking out the first ATG. Yes I have played 1000s of hours of H2H. I have this file saved so if you would ever like to try to do what you claim should have been done, we can. I can also let you be Germans and you see if you can fare as well as my opponent.

@@bart413 This mod covers the Russian push into Poland. Last Stand Arnhem came our after Invasion Normandy. It uses a similar interface as 4 and 5 with one very large difference...You can have two battlegroups in one map at a time. This means you can stay on a map while moving friendly battlegroups in and out and borrow units from the 2nd group. It enhances the strategic layer in a wonderful way. Last Stand Arnhem (LSA) and its mods is the best CC IMO. The stock game covers the Allied push for Arnhem Bridge. It is a very unique GC (you can blow up bridges to stall advance/multiple fronts) but we don't play it multiplayer much. Its mods...Radzymin, Gold Juno Sword, and Rhineland are all very good and they see the most multiplayer. The 3D CC, The Bloody First (TBF) (technically CC8), was an unfortunate disappointment. Perhaps it has room for improvement. CC Gateway to Caen (GTC) and Panthers in the Fog (PITF) were released somewhere between LSA and TBF and I would call them CC7. They are similar to LSA but changed the team selection in a drastic way that I cannot stomach. Come on down to the CC Discord, discord.gg/Ua7MTvkf and you can chat it up with all of us or even start playing :)

Thanks for the input! I will see what I can do. To be honest, I had never considered people outside the Discord community stumbling across this or even looking for CC videos. It is so cool to see the interest and I will do my best to make it more KZbin-friendly and accessible. Did you have a suggestion for each title to start with? Just "Close Combat"? I named the channel STRIKEPlaysCloseCombat because that is all I post. The info in the titles is all very pertinent to differentiate each stream; I wouldn't want any of that to be moved to the description. So for this video the adjusted title would be "Close Combat:Last Stand Arhem Radz3.1 Teamop 029 Zabki vs Gallows" Would that work? too long? I am sure having close combat in the title would help with people searching for Close Combat videos.

@@STRIKEplaysCloseCombat Yeah, I think that would be much better, just having the words "Close Combat" in the title.
