In a stroke of genius, Roger Wilco got into a washing machine which somehow not only removed his entire spacesuit but, in a simultaneous event of surpassing unlikeliness, every article of a Sarien battle uniform complete with identification card dressed him impeccably. A masterful move! For his next trick, Roger will ride a tornado into a scrapyard which will assemble a 1986 Buick Riviera
@LordofDaggerfall2 күн бұрын
I think Roger has the power of predestined hindsight, all the death scenarios are just different points in time space he can unconsciously view which leads him to, in his reality, always doing the correct action. 😂

This epside highlights one of the biggest flaws with Sierra quest games. Missing something, or making a wrong move early in the game can block you much much further in the game when you can't fix it. In this case there's not even a signpost that you should go back to the library room to get the cassette. If the dying man was on the next screen, or appeared as you entered the room, it would be fine.
@LordofDaggerfall3 күн бұрын
Yep. And right at the start you're going to get blasted repeatedly by Sariens until you go back where you started out of frustration 😆 not sure what the point of that was. A lot of games had the exit and then enter methodology.

I absolutely adore the premise of a shitty minimum wage employee thrown into a situation way above his paygrade and fumbling his way to victory through a combination of panic and luck. More games need to be like "lets see this idiot collapse an empire without ever really knowing wtf is going on at any point"
@LordofDaggerfall6 күн бұрын
Precisely! What do I have in common with the doom marine? The whole reason these games work is because the characters are relatable and flawed. Guybrush Threepwood is another good example of this. Just a boy trying to impress a girl that's out of his league 😆

I kinda miss the old point and click era. Sure, they are still around but 99% lack the charm the old ones have. Apart from Thimbleweed and Yes, your Grace the genre has pretty much dried up imho.
@LordofDaggerfall6 күн бұрын
I think it's a missed opportunity. People are hungry for well written stories under good gameplay and fun puzzles. I'd love to use one of my novel ideas for an adventure game, I'm sure there's plenty of stories that would translate well to the medium and that should be the focus moving forward. Like a mixture of Heavy Rain and Space Quest would be cool.
@uplinkx11266 күн бұрын
@@LordofDaggerfall Writing has a lot to do with it. But I also think internet access killed the genre. I remember being stuck for days or even weeks, trying to tackle the problem on how to move forward with my friends. That was so rewarding. Even Thimbleweed and Yes, your Grace pretty much "play themselves". For better or for worse... Old games were extremely obscure. I think that's lost now.
@LordofDaggerfall6 күн бұрын
@uplinkx1126 Yeah that's true, people have shorter attention spans now. I think with the emergence of AI it's not out of the realm of possibility the genre would get a huge Renaissance with near infinite inputs to add to replayability. For now it's super niche or retro.
@uplinkx11266 күн бұрын
@@LordofDaggerfall Honestly? As much as I enjoyed the games back then, I am not really sure if I am waiting for a Renaissance. It's a bit like Abba releasing a new album in the 2020's. It sounds like it, it looks like it... but it's not the same. I feel it's s not just how the game (or music or movies) looks or plays, it's also the zeitgeist... and that's something you'll never get back. imho Games have evolved over the past for decades and the time of obscure point and click adventures is now a thing of the past. Even though I own every retro game out there on Steam, I have never really played them with the exception of maybe one or two. I do think Telltale made some good modern stuff. The wolf among us being my absolute favorite. I'd rather see things moving forward instead of trying to capture the magic of the past. Memories are usually sweet until you revisit them. I'd rather keep my precious memories. But hey, that's just a one man's opinion.
@LordofDaggerfall6 күн бұрын
@uplinkx1126 That's fair though, I suppose its a bit like weekend at Bernies it's sort of macabre to prop it up with a stick and make it dance for us because it will never really ever be the same. I hadn't thought of it that way. It's an interesting perspective.

I liked this game. So did my dad. It was one of those that the demo (which was the mission based on the Bank of America shootout) sold us on it, and if we had played any previous Police Quest games, we wouldn't have even looked twice. The only real problem with this game, though, is how the final police mission sets you up to majorly fail in an unnanounced manner. After the first time, you know what's coming, but it's less "shocking" as it is wholly unfair.
