My mom and dad had a record of WW2 songs and this was one of the songs. I remember hearing it often as a very young child. My parents both fought in WW2. My Dad being in the Navy was taken POW in Manila and my mom was a Czechoslovakian national born in Vienna who left Europe because of persecution of being Jewish and headed to Manila to be with relatives. She and my dad met there. They married several month later and right after, my father was taken prisoner and my mom worked for the resistance and lived in the streets for three years.

It was a No.1 hit for the American big band Glenn Miller Orchestra, also in 1941. Britush singer Vera Lynn subsequently recorded it in 1942. subsequently
