Thanks for a very informative video. I have the exact same issue and trying the same method. haven't been able to catch the release with the stick yet. With the seat bottom out i noticed a few torx bolts at the bottom. would removing those torx let me swing the seat back to give me some clearance to the trunk?

@@tlee64 Not sure, try using a flat bar instead of the stick. With the flat bar ,you can bend it then you can hit the seat release .

I finally got it and what made the difference was sticking an inspection camera into the trunk so I could see where the release was. But thanks for the suggestions and the super helpful video!

If you help just one person, the video is worth it! In my case, I'm procrastinating doing more-or-less exactly this right now. Same color car, and same 12V generator conversion, only the previous owner didn't line it up very well with the belt height.

A better way is to put jumper cables on your car turn on the ignition(don’t start the car) then hit the trunk button

My battery was so dead it wouldn’t take a charge,not even enough to voltage to open the trunk. It turned out that the computer on the right side passenger kick panel blew and wouldn’t allow any voltage to the battery . When I got the trunk opened and put in a new battery i still had nothing, that’s how I found out about the computer .

my grandfather used to wash his car with a mixture of dry laundry soap, water and diesel (kerosene) fuel. i suspect he used it, in part, because the roads in his day (b. 1894, d. 1969) were heavily tarred and so were the cars. :)

Yes. Get a tube bender, also go slow and take your time. You can re bend the pipe if you make a mistake ( as long as it’s not kinked ). Also make sure the fittings are seated. If you are trying to tighten the fittings and it doesn’t seem to tighten, you have to make sure the pipes line up. I hope I explained that well.. good luck 🍀
@hammerandhatchetengineerin4967
@hammerandhatchetengineerin4967 2 жыл бұрын
What I mean is if the fittings are slightly off it will feel like you are stripping the threads, so you got to move or slightly bend the pipe until it seats.

you might want to think about adding a couple of in-line fuel filters. one before the fuel pump and one after. you'd have to cut the metal line of course...and leave it that way for a few thousands of miles. but a couple short lengths of rubber fuel line to connect each end of the filter to the cut ends of the line and two clamps (four per piece of hose) at each connection should keep it from leaking. i don't know how your car is set up from the fuel pump to the carbs, so you'd have to work that out. but it's a good idea on an old tank and lines that have been shown to have a lot of debris in them. ...just a thought. :)
@hammerandhatchetengineerin4967
@hammerandhatchetengineerin4967 2 жыл бұрын
Yes 👍🏻 I definitely will use extra fuel filters. I m on the fence about cutting the fuel line (for originality sake),But thinking about it and also put a extra fuel filter and the facet fuel pump (wired remotely for emergency) near the tank .
@deep6thisdeep6this92
@deep6thisdeep6this92 2 жыл бұрын
couldn't help but laugh when the bottle blew off.....sorry. :) to clean out the tank and the line, you might try throwing a gallon or two of diesel or gasoline in the tank and turning on the ignition. on my TD the fuel pump will run until the float bowls are full (i think), but if the fuel line is disconnected from the carbs it may run as long as there's fuel in the tank... just a guess. i've never tried it. anyway, if that works you might consider running the end of the fuel line back into the tank using a section of rubber fuel hose, that way, you can just hook up a trickle charger to your battery, turn on your ignition and sit back for a hour or two while the whole thing cleans itself. or, i suppose, until your fuel pump burns up, which ever comes first. :)

My friend has an early td(51) and his didn’t have them. Like I said my car (1953)was missing them. I did get them on the driver side, but they just didn’t fit right , so I took them off . I later read on one of the forums that the aftermarket springs just didn’t fit. Since the early TDs didn’t have them and neither did mine, I just left them off. Hope this helps
