So, just leaving the crew of the other ship to die? Where is the outrage? obvious this is AI who has no concept of humanity-- or sentience!

Just another humbly and freely offered suggestion this was offered a short time ago to a Story-Smythe but have not heard back. Take, like, dislike, use, mod, discard; your choice. As the last Xeneron command center was falling to the Human Defenders, Commander Xol'tur fought a desperate hand-to-hand battle with a Human non-com he later would find out was Pvt Tsindriti of Earth. Tsindriti was a Human who, as a youngling, had lost his Family in the first Xeneron attack on Earth. Commander Xol'tur was amazed that his severely wounded opponent fought with such intensity. The Human slammed the pommel of his KA-BAR onto the Commanders hand held his ceremonial D'nital plasma knife. The same plasma blade issued to him when he graduated from the Xeneron Advanced Military Command Academy. As he felt the pain of Pvt Tsindriti's blow, he dropped his plasma knife. In slow mo, he watched Pvt Tsindriti's blade approach the gap between his helmet and body armor. The Private's bare hand accelerated towars the Commander's exposed neck. Commander Xol'tur's gaze was drawn to the Globe and Anchor tattoo on the back of Pvt Tsindriti's hand. In that moment Commander Xol'tur prepared himself to die. Then, the impossible happened. The private's death blow never came. Instead, Private Tsindriti asked him to yield. As Xol'tur was lead away, he saw Pvt Tsindriti pick up his D'nital Blade, turn it off, and stuff it into the MOLLE Dump Pouch on his belt. But, that was decades ago. The Humans had won the war, and an uneasy truce was established between the Xeneron Empire and the Human Alliance. Xol'tur, five years later, ( now a civilian ) found himself in a dirty, rough bar on the Beldarian Space Station. The kind of place old soldiers came to drink, get rowdy, and remember "the good old days". As the door opened, the noisy bar became very quiet as a Human slowly strode in. He was dressed in a blood-stained, grimed up BDU and Infantry Boots. His face was sad, scared, and old revealing the 1000 yard stare of a soldier who had seen too many battles. He walked with a limp and wore a belt sporting a MOLLE Drop Pouch on his left, with a sheathed KABAR on the right. Scanning the room, he saw Xol'tur; heir eye's met. A much younger Xeneron vet approached the Human with malice and a snarl. The Human did not even look; he raised his hand with lightning speed as he struck the younger vet knocking him to the ground. The last thing the young vet saw just before "his lights went out" was the tattoo on the back of the Human's hand. Xol'tur raised a hand ( the hand that once held his D'nital Blade ) and the room froze in respect. Citizen Tsindriti approached Xol'tur's table and asked if he could sit down. The Human staring into the ex-Commander's eyes asked if he would buy him a drink. With a threatening frown Xol'tur asked what the Human would pay for the drink with. Tsindriti reached into his MOLLE and pulled out the D'nital Plasma Blade. The Blade was polished and looked like the day it was issued. Tsindriti turned it on and set it on the table in front of Xol'tur with the Blade pointing at his chest. Taken aback, Xol'tur took the blade, held it up to Tsindriti's face, then turned it off. The two then shared a shot of Reilgellian Whiskey. Closure that day. A small measure of Respect, Honor, and Tolerance was planted then and there. A seed that marked the beginning of what would later become an unshakeable bond between the Xenerons and Humans.

You know what would've been a solid line? Something along the lines of "Humans are fragile creatures, but in each of them lies the potential for a soldier that wont be broken."

It's refreshing to hear sci-fi stories where humans are feared. Every movie and most books you see/read the aliens are always way more powerful than a human and can rip them apart physically. You'd think that since they rely on technology they would have become less physical. The stories don't always make sense, but I find them to be a breath of fresh air.

Its not just humanity's unwavering determination thats terrifying to those above. Its our ability to see the light of hope in even the darkest abyss. The ability to dare hope against all makes us truly dangerous.

The major flaw in this story is the human dreadnought sitting unused and not updated for 100 years. That is something humans just would never do. The ship would be in a constant state of improvement and upgrades or new ships built to replace it. On that flaw in the story, this thing gets a fail, not worthy of a listen.
