Did the car ever have blue smoke on startup? It’s an issue I’m having with mine and it looks like I may have some seepage around the valve cover as well. Trying to narrow it down.
@BaunPerformanceКүн бұрын
Yes, it started around 80-90k ish. Unfortunately blue smoke (oil burning) on cold start has absolutely nothing to do with external leaks or PCV issues. Being a spicy economy car, VW used inferior valve guide seals. The oil leaks past them on higher mileage MQB and burns off on cold start. Luckily, it’s such a small amount of oil even at 140k+ it doesn’t add up to a significant amount over my 7k oil change interval, but it is annoying & can only really be fixed with new bronze valve guides/seals (upgraded from OEM)
@sheldoncastro95Күн бұрын
@@BaunPerformance Wow definitely one of the most helpful comments I’ve ever received on a post. Thank you! But also I’m definitely not a mechanic so I’m curious… if a bad PCV leads to external leaks due to over pressurization, why could it not cause internal leaks? Again just curious since your first explanation clearly shows you know what you’re talking about. Thanks again!

Little late commenting but i have a 2017 jetta with misfires on all cylinders after changing spark plugs and coil packs, suspecting it could be buildup on the valves, The CEL was intermittent for a while before going staying on constantly. Any feedback or opinions appreciated

I crank the flow up to 55cfh on the torch & 20 on the back purge. 88amps on 0.65 & as high as 105-125 depending on what thickness flange or hanger is going on. The trick is to move quickly and cool the puddle with filler

The stock IS20 in the '15 GTI Autobahn I bought 7 months ago as a one-owner 53K mile car is apparently at deaths door at 54K. Car came running Unitronic Stage 2 which was installed (w catted DP) at around 40K. First of all, pretty (VERY) shocked that it would go at such low mileage. Secondly, naturally since it needs replacing anyway am thinking of going IS38 or something like Vortex (heard bad things re: EQT...Garrett PowerMax?) but one thing I'm not doing is putting another POS OEM IS20...what a joke. I'll check your tuning vid but it seems like MK7 people either hate or love Unitronic. I loved driving their Stage 2 in mostly city traffic and their customer service is great....maybe it's a case of I don't know what I'm missing with other tunes...?? TY cheers dude!
@BaunPerformance21 күн бұрын
I’d recommend a OEM is38 from FCP (lifetime warranty FTW) if you’re happy with the power it makes now, although with any upgraded turbo should be paired with a upgraded intercooler (if you don’t have one already). 2015 cars had early revision turbo and other engine parts, so a fresh current revision is38 should last 100,000+ miles worry free with proper maintenance.

Water pump isn’t run off the timing set like older VW, so it can be done whenever. You can check timing chain stretch via VCDS or through a inspection cover, but the Gen3 TSI tend to last a long time

You make one cut to the OEM catback, which is one piece from the factory. Exactly the same method as a resonator delete, & fully reversible with the supplied clamp if you ever return to stock.

hi jake! interested in a longer opinion on the DTR vs IS38. im about to pull the trigger on one off those 2 for mi GTI. what do you think about the spool of the DTR? it is that much diferent? its my hardcore daily. im usually doing 85% of city driving. i love the numbers of the dtr, dont want to loose the fun of driving the car every day. i feel the DTR has to be an in-beween the is38 and the Vortex std. if that makes sense.. what do you think now that you have expeienced both? Thanks for th help jake!💯💪
@BaunPerformanceАй бұрын
Vortex std is a league above the DTR, which is comparable to the is38. Is38 spools a little quicker & the DTR pulls a little harder to redline. All three have their place in the market for sure, it just depends on if you want it to feel quick, be quick, or actually put down impressive numbers. DTR will feel quick, is38 is quick, and Vortex is the way to go if you wanna run impressive 1/4 mile times & making 400+ on the dyno. For a daily driver that sees the mountains & track days I love my is38 as a good all around’er. Not saying the other two don’t fit that bill, you’d be basically splitting hairs on daily use, but the is38 is the OEM+ champ for obvious reasons & FCP Euro selling them with a lifetime warranty is just icing on the cake. The best value if you’re starting from scratch is the DTR, since tuning is included.
@nanodxxlАй бұрын
@@BaunPerformance thanks for your answer jake! so if you had to build your GTI again from scratch, would you choose the DTR over the IS38?

ever heard of 5th and 5th gear transferring more noise to the cabin with the bfi mounts? first through fourth is very quite but 5th is noticeably louder. I use music most of the time so I don't know if it started with the mount install or not. Thanks Jake!
@BaunPerformance2 ай бұрын
Neutral with the AC on at idle is the loudest, because what you’re hearing is gear chatter. The mounts themselves don’t cause any NVH, they simply reduce/hide it less than the squishy OEM mounts
@oddfoxchassis7862 ай бұрын
Have you done any AC, wondering how that is without a water cooler. Can you also provide information on the CK TORCH you bought specifically for the 230. I’m upgrading soon, have a smaller Everlast rig that’s only DC.
@BaunPerformance2 ай бұрын
I’ve used the same CK torch on my 210EXT and the Typhoon, it’s not specific to either. I called Salem Welding Supply in Salem, OH and told them what I wanted & they placed the order and shipped it to me, so unfortunately I don’t have specs on it…although it’s one phone call away if that’s what you wanted to do. I’ve maxed out the 210 on AC issue free without a water cooler. It would be nice to have, but definitely not a necessity.
@oddfoxchassis7862 ай бұрын
Appreciate the reply. I’ve been happy with my little 161STH but it’s just that, little and only does DC. I just see a few issues pop up with the coolers and I’m a hobbyist so someone in your position not having a cooler and pumping out work is very helpful. I was concerned that AC would heat up the torch too much. Great content and thanks

Heavly planning on getting the Typhoon 230 or 330 but dont want any of the included torches. Gonna email Everlast to see if they are open to retaining all the included torches and swapping them out for their NOVA 18 Flex-Neck Tig Torch 12.5 FT. Would be a waste of money having those torches and never using them since i would be using CK18 water cooled torch. If they say no then i would have to just forget about that lovely LCD touch screen and get Primweld 325x instead which gives you the option of purchasing your desired torch without forcing a package on you.

If you want a step by step with graphics and manual references, part numbers, torque specs, ECT this particular video isn’t it
@paWD402 ай бұрын
@@BaunPerformance The video is great overall, what I meant is you already spent so much time creating it, so including final step of releasing the drain plug would make it whole, but regardless I did mine and had funny result. After replacing the filter in the transmission, filled back with 3L, heated to 36'C, released the plug and nothing came out for 3 sec, then barely anything, but I wanted to do the flush anyway, so removed the internal pipe, and let the mixture of old fluid from tq conv with that 3L of fresh fluid out, and re-filled again with 3L. Heated again to 36'C and now after removing drain plug, the fluid was coming out long due to 0.5in pan, and 0.5 in filter, so 2nd time without removing pan 3L is way too much.
