How much do they charge to launch at Newport Dunes. Do you have t pay parking on top of the launch fees?
@DaveysWorldFishing2 күн бұрын
In the off season it is like $15. I hear that during the summer and prime time it bumps ups to almost $30. If you are on a trailer, not a ton of options and you kind of have to pay it. But that fee includes parking and launch.
@SymboIik6 күн бұрын
Thanks for the video! Btw you can not park on the sand but yes you can load and unload on beach. On busy days the rangers are on it and will give tickets for cars lefts alone. Dope vid thanks 🤙

Respectfully you did it wrong in my opinion. The way to get a good connection and reduce rod twisting, is to do exactly what you did but when pushing down have the not centered. When you get to the bottom of the rod without over pushing you then twist to align the guides with the reel seat that twisting motion causes friction in is what locks in that type of ferrule. You can still pull apart the rod normally but that little bit of friction is what locks in the rod from twisting

I picked up some knife jigs, such as the Mustad Rip Rollers, and I inherited some smaller 150g jigs (which are probably like the flutter jigs you mentioned with all of these smaller jigs having treble hooks). Some of the ones with treble hooks have a little rusting so I am definitely replacing those, but with the new purchases (rip rollers), I am not really confident in the assist hooks they came stock with. Some have flattened ends rather than eyes, which makes me think it could rub into the cord. Also, the split rings do not look like they are heavy duty, so I don't think that I trust them for blue fin. I have been deep sea fishing for cod countless times but I will be making my first trip for blue fin tuna very soon here and I wanted to be as prepared for success as possible. I want to replace the split rings that came stock with the jigs but not sure what size I should get. I think I currently have a supply of 5, 6, and 6.5, but they appear similar in size to the split rings already on the jigs so I'm thinking they will not be heavy duty enough. Any recommendation of split ring size? Also, I was thinking of making some of my own assist hooks. I would be using a kevlar cord with a 2mm diameter and rated at 500 lbs. and using a 7/0 Gamakatsu circle hook (or maybe they're Mustad, I forget now). I chose the 7/0 because they are wider than the width of the jigs. Am I better off buying a quality assist hook, or do you think making my own would be fine? I will be making them with solid rings rated at 500 lbs.
@DaveysWorldFishing12 күн бұрын
Lots of great questions. I’m excited to hear the results of your tuna trip when you go. I have a two day Tuna Wars trip leaving Monday. Hopefully we find a few fish. I have t gotten into making my own assist hooks. I usually buy quality set ups or pull them off my older, out of rotation jigs. As far as splitting go, I’m not too positive on sizing. I also pull those off of older jigs I have and run with that. I don’t want to steer you in the wrong direction.

Thanks for this! Do they only charge if you park? Is the launch fee separate? Could you launch and then park on the street?
@DaveysWorldFishingАй бұрын
It is all one fee. And I did find out that if you are trucking in your kayak, no trailer, the parking fee is hourly and not the nice lump sum. Definitely not worth it. Better to park on a street at that point.
@jplee3Ай бұрын
@@DaveysWorldFishing i thought i saw somewhere that parking is free the first half hour or something but maybe thats for the general beach access parking? If you do drive in to drop off a yak or inflatable with the intention of parking on the street, do you still have to pay a launch fee there?

Dave I will be on this same boat doing this same trip may 25', what should I be expecting? Any potential for white sea bass? What rod setups would you bring?
@DaveysWorldFishingАй бұрын
I'd reach out to the boat ahead of time, but if they do go in tight to the islands, either San Nich or Clemente, there is always potential for Yellowtail and White Sea Bass. If that is the case, 7'6" or 8" Heavy Action PCH matched up with either a Komodo 463 or a Tesoro 10 size star drag. If it is rockfish, your standard rockfish setups would work perfect. 7' Heavy action rod with a round reel of your choice.
