I just bought a mandolin and although I’m a guitar player of many years I’m loving it, I’m here because of the tune , hopefully I’ll learn to play it as good as you mate 👍🏻

Very lively and nicely done. Did you have the Seagull plugged into an amp for this?

a delightful presentation. Also, is that a Mid-Missouri MM-8 mando? It looks like their work. Excellent folks.

Thanks for the kind comments - its a Paul Hathaway Mandolin - one of his first and I have been playing this instrument for over 29 years - lovely tone - I also have a Seagull S8 - I'll look up the MM-8 though...

You know, I've only just started researching the old cultures but your rendition is fantastic. I was trying to find a record of edward jones by harp, this was wonderful, I hope you're doing well and still playing.

I've been trying to find this tune for some time and you play it perfectly. I first heard it when my Uncle George played it on his fiddle when I last visited Ireland. George is 98 now and still playing. He didn't know the name of it so it took a bit of finding.

Thank you for posting. I’ve just had the great pleasure of playing with a great young fiddler from Wales who is visiting in Canada. He played this tune for us. I’ll be learning it from your video😊. Health and happiness from Northern Canada

Most jolly sportsman’s hornpipe one KZbin! This is the edition I’d like to emulate on fiddle. Thank you!

Thank you so much - it's been a busy time since I posted this so apologies for not replying sooner - hope the fiddle version went well? Here is another version I have recorded recently - slower and more laid back - not so traditional but quite atmospheric... keep well soundcloud.com/sweetharrymusic/the-sportsman?si=9046c24a04f743fb9f516bc9494af383&

Hi Scott - It is indeed - it was probably one of his early ones as I bought it in 1990 - not many instruments come near it's deep sweet tones - happy playing

Loking at Harry's tee shirt makes me think it's being filmed in a mirror or in "mirror mode." If not, two left-handed players and instruments? Very nice playing.

Really Enjoying your channel. Great library of potential stuff to learn here. Thanks. Do you know if there’s any jams for beginner/intermediate in Sussex/Surrey? (I know they will probably be on hold right now)
@sweetharrymusic16673 жыл бұрын
Thank you - apologies for the late reply - there are some excellent folk clubs in Sussex - Lewes is highly recommended as they are friendly and they get a lot of top names doing workshops - I did a fiddle one with Nancy Kerr (there were only 10 of us and it was a full day) which was excellent. There are others - the Willows in Arundel and lots of others - hopefully opening out soon... happy playing

Is that a bouzouki?
@sweetharrymusic16675 жыл бұрын
Sort of - its an octave Mandolin which has a shorter neck than a conventional bouzouki which makes it easier for mando players to switch between instruments and is normally tuned an octave lower than the mandolin.
