If the manager, company, division, section, etc. is "short staffed" that literally has nothing to do with the employees PTO request. The PTO is compensation, and is to be used. WHY are they short staffed, and why have they not filled the positions?

where I work if you take PTO they literally can't ask questions or question it in any way and if it does become an issue you can like most things in these videos I'm like you can that's like a legal thing that you can take action against them and you would get enough money that it wouldn't matter that you'd also get fired

The manager should have checked the duty roster to confirm they had coverage. That is the manager’s responsibility. That is also the reason that email should be used to make the official request.

I had a boss tell me that he needed to check with my co-manager before approving vacation. (Co-manager had nothing to do with my area of responsibility.) I followed up a week later, my boss still hadn’t done anything, so I booked my plane tickets. Several days later he mentioned that he still needed to check with co-manager. I told him to don’t worry about it - I’ve already booked the flights. He was shocked but I calmly told him that I had to book to get good prices. It’s not my problem that he felt like he needed to check with one of his direct reports to approve my vacation.

I broke up my PTO here and there throughout the year. At the end of the year he tells me I should next year take big chunks instead. The following year I take nearly all around Thanksgiving and Christmas and he says that's too much PTO to take all at once.

A request form mean NO! From personal experience after 25 years of working and never got a vacation until l gave them my favor request forms! I QUICK and 3 months later they offer 10k more to come back and every 3 months l will get 3 day off!🥳🤣🤣

My boss right there and then they fired me for attendance due to me taking time off (at all). I had half my PTO still and they are fighting my unemployment because they "justly" fired me" BS i asked for 15 off early (even got my work load done) to take my dog to the vet and get his meds. bs.
