I'm a 70s baby and huge sci-fi and space fan. My four babies have grown up and gone off into the world so i went to Uni to study and found myself drawn into International Relations and space security research. It's been a tough grind for a stay-at-home mum to transition into but it is shows like yours - especially women thinking and talking about the future of space - that has given me inner strength to continue with my journey. NB My search history could also seem a bit dodgy from some persepctives haha =D

Who has more environmental monitoring satellites than the US? Satellites don't "predict", they provide data to terrestrial models. . .
@ScottSuhr-l8m3 ай бұрын
Treaties don't seem to work terrestrially (look at the China buildup in the South China Sea) -- why do you think they are useful in space for a true political/economic adversary? Especially when you consider that space is largely unobserved, and difficult to access, relative to Earth and Sea.

Hypersonic vehicles target air and ground (and ships) not space -- they are not a threat to LEO (or at least it would be like using a tank to sink a ship. . .)

Orbital change servicing….Hopefully ULA is speaking to BlackSky 🛰️. With these long-duration US appl’s, seems like the purchase price of ULA keeps going up, up, up

Excellent interview and details. Beautiful Vulcan Heavy triple-core, ULA ! Even as an outsider to the industry, it is evident that Tory is definitely a valuable industry CEO whose impact & personality has helped maintain/grow his staff talent despite a accelerating competitive industry. …..and nice that there are launch providers to fill in the Cape’s July manifest with Sx grounded the last week.

Tory said "There's a lot of money to be made", but he also appears to understand that the business case doesn't actually pencil out for a Cislunar economy. I have yet to see any realistic profitable resource exploitation opportunities for the Moon, Mars, or asteroids and I don't think there will ever be one. It's a money pit. When financial reality hits and these childhood fantasies of human space colonization are eventually crushed, maybe we can start to have honest conversations about mankind's future.

Very interesting, particularly the end about questioning and challenging assumptions. Neil degrasse Tyson claims that blowing up enemy satellites inevitably will just harm your own, as it can create space debris and complications. I think this is a an example of challenging assumption of previous anti-satellite technology. But more apt, I think, are those ideas of gray-zone attacks. The dazzling and jamming of satellites, or maybe even the covert launching of a kinetic weapon from a satellite that would be hard to track or attribute to a particular state.

Great conversation! Too short...I look forward to the follow on podcasts with Lt Gen Shaw. I am the course director for the Maritime Space Operations Integration Course at the Space Education and Training Center on Peterson. As you can infer by the name, my team teaches the joint force about space integration into Joint Terrestrial / Maritime Operations at the tactical and operational level. I loved the tie-ins between DSO and maritime operations. This is spot on and not talked about enough at the staff-officer level. I will be bringing this up to my class today to get their thoughts. Also, I really enjoyed the reference to DIME and deterrence. We are teaching these specifically to our students with the desire that they can support their teammates and Commanders with quality space application COAs and inputs at the Combatant Command and Component Staff level. Thanks again. Great work.

How do we balance the tech gains and resilience from proliferation, but protect new companies from "sorry, there is no space left for the constellation you want to launch"?

So Star Wars movies are full of Baloney? Next your gonna tell us that if a super advanced alien race invaded earth, as in the Independance Day movie, that a 1990s computer virus wouldn't be able to penetrate their Adromeda galaxy, transdimensional, portable wormhole aerospace transport systems, at least 1/2 million years ahead us? 🤣🤣

"The EXPANSE" has the most realistic space warfare of any sci-fi show. For instance, they brilliantly, they put on their space suits and depressurize their ship when going into combat.

someone will use some kind of mass driver to change the orbit of an asteroid and aim it at a target, like the earth. even a small one will cause a lot of problems.
