I think you did a great job with this movie review. I feel that creature at the end was the puppet master. At the beginning the creature was found in a church and when going through the bears bible you see they found god in a church. I feel the creature needed the down fall of the bears and unicorns to create its final form. And how the snake was in the bible and the moment the mom unicorn was focused and before her down fall the snake was shown. Showing the devil is around us even in paradise. Just a theory.

It's worth noting that Tater's family owns their homes (parents and grandparents have separate homes) in *Southern California.* That's prime real estate! Add to the fact that Tater has braces (something my parents could never do for me) and that her family can host 12 additional kiddos for summer -- I definitely wouldn't call the family poor. People from Los Angeles recognized the home styles, hillsides, Spanglish, and yes, earthquakes as all things from the area. I really lay blame on Disney's poor marketing and lack of understanding the distinction between LatAm folks and US Latinos to properly represent the show when it first debuted with the theme song. If you have Disney+, I would suggest watching "Summer of No Sabo." It gets at the crux of the identity of the show / Tater. I really appreciate your acknowledging the discrimination and violence that undergirds a lot of No Sabo histories.

I liked it enough to watch it more than once. It feels relatable in terms of parent child relationships. But I hate how the complaints involve wanting more focus or even a reference to 9/11 since it's set in 2002 (even though these are the same people who complain about politics in entertainment). I also find it dumb that people complain about it referencing periods. Those are the types of people who shame their daughters for having periods. When should girls learn about puberty? I think the reason why Priya and Abby quickly forgave Mei than Miriam is because they both have Asian parents (Priya is Indian and Abby Korean) so Miriam didn't have the experience of having strict parents. You can tell based on how Priya was dressed despite being considered goth.

It takes a lot to offend me so I was never personally offended by it, I mean my whole family loves to joke around with our own stereotypes. That being said I do think the initial critiques were valid, the use of Terremoto, Cuckita, and Oye Primos were all fair game for criticism. I don't mind Tater not being able to speak spanish well, found it pretty relatable and I'm glad that's being represented in the show. That being said, I think putting it in the intro was not a good idea. You kinda risk people getting the wrong idea. I've seen the final show and it's honestly pretty good and I like how the show is trying to showcase problems that a lot of Chicanos could face, even if they align with stereotypes. I mean I have 11 cousins that I often hang with so I'd be one to talk if I called this show stereotypical. It can be a harsh truth, but I appreciate that it's being represented in this show. Honestly a lot of this could've been explained and the backlash could've died down quicker if not for all that bullshit Myrna said. Seriously she should've been fired for how she acted. Just made things way worse than they needed to be.

long text! The protagonist's va not wanting to learn her own Spanish reminds me of when the head director of one of the seasons of the anime Precure refused to research the topics that would be part of the season she was writing, a season about food and cooking, she literally said that to She just liked food and didn't care about researching why people love making food and the types of cultures linked to such food, so much so that the best episodes of the season are literally the ones that focus on this and demonstrate the passion that people have when cooking, but the director simply refused to do it and this cost a lot the narrative quality of the season along with other things. What I want to say is that if you don't take the time to learn something that could be important for the show you're working with, the show itself could suffer the consequences of your lack of interest. I just hope that the creator of the show saw people criticizing the va and gave her a lecture, changing the va would also be a good idea.

am I stupid? am I the issue? but I think the internet is doing the internet thing and being mad just to be mad. Lowkey she was right, Spanish is a colonizer language. No one is perfect in their Spanish, ESPECIALLY those of us born and raised in America. Spanish is a colonizer language that was forced onto us, but we took it and made it our own! It’s the beauty of Spanish in every culture. Many of us speak spanglish, using words that don’t exist in Spanish but we think we do. Spanish is hard, we can’t expect people to be perfect. Not being Latino enough, is something that many Latinos have gone through and felt . It’s sad that our people are telling us that. Also like the name thing is so silly. I know plenty if kids named Nacho, it’s a real name! It’s a nickname. It’s not like naming a kid taco. And adding “ito” to the end of names or words is very common, especially if there’s two kids with the same name, eg Nacho and Nachito. Also since they are Mexican American cucita doesn’t mean coochie to us lol. I know women named cuca and again adding “ita” is a term for endearment. If I say Mexican people eat tacos, I’m not being stereotypical, it’s true. We eat tacos. It’d be stereotypical to say mexican people only eat tacos. This isn’t Dora. This show isn’t meant to teach Spanish. It’s validating and representing hispanic kids who don’t feel like enough, who grew up in a Mexican household in America and never learned the language. We ask for representation but then bring out pitchforks when there’s one thing we don’t like. The grammar thing is silly, grammar is hard even in English tbh. My grammar is horrible in English and Spanish and that doesn’t mean I’m not trying my best. It’s a hard language. Many no sabo kids didn’t ask to not speak Spanish. Many already feel left out for not knowing. I think your point at the end was very nicely put, thank you for your grace :) So tbh yea I think people were too harsh, I’m excited for the show and I know many will love it. Also naming it terremoto heights was Lowkey foul lmao. ~ur local mex Latina :)

I'd like to see the video on Miles. Didn't know he was no sabo. I don't speak Spanish, though, so I only guessed from context clues. Miles seems to switch languages pretty easily. In ATSV he has a lower grade in Spanish, but it's from missing assignments, not a poor grasp on the language. His parents are shocked at his grade and he and his mom even have a brief back and forth about it (though I don't actually know what was said). Just realized I sound like I'm defending Miles or something, but I'm just curious about your take on it since he's not portrayed as anything other than fluent to the non Spanish speaker.

He tells her "No es my fault Mami" which is a bad way of saying "It's not my fault Mami" in Spanish. And she replies with "How is this not my fault are you taking classes in Spanglish??" @@Baitelvideos37 Ah, that's really interesting! Now this makes me wonder how intentional the choice was to make him less fluent in the movies. The best theory I can think of is to highlight a difference between our Miles and Miles-42, who has a noticeably stronger accent. I assume this is because he only lives with his mom, so they speak more Spanish in the house. I hope we get to hear from him to compare. If any of this is true, it's pretty cool that they have hints that only a fluent Spanish speaker would pick up on.

There's actually another Disney channel show called "The Ghost and Molly Mcgee" where they address this feeling (S2 E8b - "100% Molly Mcgee") where the main character Molly feels like she's not "Thai enough" to communicate with her family. i recommend checking this episode out (and maybe the series) if you haven't already.

Longer answer: Oh boy, where do we even begin with Disney's "Primos"? This film, or should I say, this cinematic rollercoaster of emotions, was like a glitter bomb thrown into the middle of a wedding reception. Sure, it was fun for the five-year-old who threw it, but for everyone else, it was just a mess that nobody wanted to clean up. Now, let's unpack this sparkly disaster, shall we? First off, the plot was as predictable as a rom-com where the couple hates each other in the first five minutes and falls in love by the end. The whole 'human-turned-monster-turned-back-again' trope has been done so many times, it's practically a cliché. And the execution? Oh, the execution. It was like watching a high school play where the only thing missing was a cardboard moon and a couple of singing cows. The script was cringier than a teenager's poetry slam, and the pacing made a snail on a leisurely stroll look like Usain Bolt. Now, let's talk about the characters. Our protagonist, the charmingly named 'Primo', had the depth of a kiddie pool. His transformation from an average Joe to a monster was about as surprising as finding out water is wet. The supporting cast was a rainbow coalition of stereotypes, each more one-dimensional than the last. The villain was so over-the-top, you'd think he was auditioning for a pantomime role. And the love interest? Let's just say her personality was as bland as unsalted oatmeal. The animation was... well, let's be kind and say it was 'unique'. It looked like someone had a fever dream after binge-watching every Tim Burton movie and then decided to create a children's film with the leftover visuals. The colors were garish, the character designs were more terrifying than the actual monsters, and the movements were so jerky, it was like watching a robot try to do the Macarena. But the music! Ah, the music. The score was so forgettable, it made elevator music seem like a Mozart symphony. The songs were thrown in at random intervals, as if the creators had a quota of "musical moments" they had to meet, and they couldn't be bothered to make them relevant to the plot. The lyrics were so painfully simple, even a caveman could have figured them out. And the worst part? They were catchy. Like, earworm catchy. Like, you'll-be-humming-them-while-you-try-to-fall-asleep-and-wake-up-scared-because-you-can't-get-them-out-of-your-head catchy. The storyline had more holes than a block of Swiss cheese, and the humor was as flat as a pancake left out in the sun. The moral of the story, which I'm guessing was supposed to be about self-acceptance and family, was delivered with the subtlety of a sledgehammer to the face. And the twist? Oh, the twist. It was so obvious, I saw it coming from the trailers. But hey, not all was lost. The film did have a couple of bright spots. The voice acting was... okay. I mean, it wasn't Oscar-worthy, but it wasn't the worst I've heard. And the message, while hammered in with the finesse of a toddler playing 'whack-a-mole', had good intentions. Plus, it was a decent nap-time option for the kids. So, were we too harsh on "Primos"? Nah. It was a valiant effort, but it felt like Disney had dipped into their 'B-team' vault for this one. It's not the worst film in existence, but it's definitely not their best. It's like ordering a gourmet meal and getting a soggy hot dog instead. Sure, it's food, but it's not what you were expecting, and it's definitely not what you paid for. "Primos" is the kind of movie that you watch once, shrug off, and then pretend never happened when someone brings it up at a dinner party. But hey, at least it gave us something to talk about, right? Right?

I lost it with Nacho and Nachito visual representations 😂😂😂 loved the video. I do believe, however, that saying "lots of 2nd generation Latinos in the US didn't have the chance to learn Spanish properly" is a bit of a stretch. I'd say most 2nd or beyond generations of Latinos simply don't have the need to learn Spanish, and therefore never find the interest to do so. Here in Mexico, we do have a huge need to learn English if we ever want to be part of multinational companies, and it's so expensive to do so, that is considered a privilege. If we can learn a second language without a cultural background as backup, I think every latino in the US has even more advantages and accessibility to learn Spanish. I think it's okay if you don't know Spanish or if you're not interested in learning it, but portraying it as an issue or as a problem that the community has is just being blind to your own privilege, imo.
