for anyone wondering, youre allowed to film these types of dances because theyre social dances. however, the actual kachina dances that some of you are talking about are not allowed to be filmed because its sacred and meant for a specific event.

@Jessica L Kachina/Katsina are the messengers between the Hopi people and the spirits of nature. They visit the Hopi people in the form of dancers who embody the Katsina and convey prayers for rain and peace to the spirits who control the earth. I'm not a Hopi so I ask a member of the Hopi people to explain this better. If you want to think in Catholic terms, they are much like saints. The people you see in this video are not Kachina. Look up Kachina Doll and you can see what they look like.

@cribs38193 жыл бұрын
they are dressed at kachinas, but the other ones that youre talking about are not supposed to be filmed because its sacred and disrespectful. this dance and dances with THESE kachinas however are allowed to be filmed. in other words, this is a SOCIAL dance, meaning its meant for a specific family, or person.

This looks like the middle village plaza on 1st mesa. If it is, then there's an alley behind who ever taped this. I'm Chippewa/Sioux from Minnesota. My mom was an RN in Keams Canyon in '86 and '90. We used to watch kachina dances in this plaza in the summer. I saw my first Home Dance in Walpi in the summer of 1986. I see part of Waves house in the beginning.
