This is great, what is the lowest volt/watt working capacity? Also could it be assemble to work without the battery? i.e. from a short burst of solar energy? Thanks
@OMGTheCloud3 күн бұрын
Both great questions! Lowest energy consumption would be fully dependent on the ESP32 board chosen, which we can look at its' spec sheet for operating power requirements. Without the battery, the project should still fully work! ... when the sun is shining :) If you had a use case with only wanting to get sensor data during the day, that could do the trick, just leave the battery out of the circuit!

I mean yes. But a 3d Pen would have been faster and maybe even cleaner if you do it right.
@OMGTheCloud5 күн бұрын
I’ve heard of those, but never tried one. Any suggestions? I wonder as far as structural strength, would a 3D pen also be melting the material on the pieces you are joining, or would it just sort of “inject” plastic into the crack? Could end up with a cold joint 🤔
@EvanzoZubinsky5 күн бұрын
@@OMGTheCloudI doubt it. 3d pen is basically hand held extruder, so bond strength is roughly the same as layer adhesion. Friction welding is probably stronger. I prefer fusing parts together using brush and DHM.
@OMGTheCloud4 күн бұрын
I’ll have to try that! Not familiar with the process, is that a solvent based solution?
@EvanzoZubinsky4 күн бұрын
@@OMGTheCloud Yes it is, dichloromethane is a solvent that disolves PLA just like acetone disolves ABS, it evaporates in seconds, so you've got to be quick: apply little bit of DHM on one of the surfaces, quickly press it to another and hold for 5-10 seconds, it will fuse together very fast, but it will take about half an hour for PLA-DHM mix to cure completely and reach it's full strength. Caution: DHM is moderately toxic, so it is recomended to use it in well ventilated room and use eye protection and gloves

The TP4056 isn't designed to work like this with solar panels. You're gonna damage the board and the battery on the long run.
@OMGTheCloud28 күн бұрын
Do you recommend an alternative?
@User_27a127 күн бұрын
@@OMGTheCloud For example the CN3791 module. There different types of this module and it was specifically designed to work with solar panels and liion batteries.
@OMGTheCloud4 күн бұрын
Great suggestion! I read up more on the topic, and I agree.. TP4056 can handle >5v input, but isn’t rated or designed for it, and conversely performs poorly in under-voltage, all things that solar panels will be throwing at it. I have a CN3791 on order now, cant wait to test it out! Appreciate your input!

Hello sir, Lets say I have SOCKS5 Proxy from a third party, which incldes, IP, PORT, USERNAME AND PASSWORD. so, How to setup this socks5 with ha proxy? Is it possible? or if not, can you suggest me something else? thank you.

Great question! Typically socks5 proxy is for outbound web traffic originating from inside your network. HA Proxy is allowing you to serve up web services to the Internet, and should be fully separate from your socks5 proxy

2 x 3.5" HDDs for a homelab? To store what exactly?
@OMGTheCloudАй бұрын
Fair question! At the time of the build, the challenge was finding cost-effective 2.5" HDDs that were at least 4TB, and did not use SMR layout, which is a massive performance killer on a RAID array. Certainly other ways to approach it, based on your storage needs, and this area has changed a bit since this project debuted. What would be a good target size for mass storage in your opinion? For me, I'd like to see at least 8-10TB usable space!
@aeiplannerАй бұрын
@@OMGTheCloud A typical home has at least a couple (2-3 PCs/Macs). Assuming each has a 1TB of storage, you would need at least double of that for Time Machine or similar backup. So that's a min of 4-6 TB right there. Then you have your mobile phones, which....if you were to have an equivalent of a $10/mo 2TB iCloud storage, would get you up to ~8TB. But then you have your PLEX/Jellyfin, Nextcloud, and general file storage. Realistically speaking, if you want room for growth, it has to be a minimum of a 24TB of usable storage. That said, why not just throw a basic TrueNAS Core set up with multiple drives in the garage, and point your Homelab server to that box for targeted storage? I'd rather fill the box you made with SATA or NVME SSD's for faster access and longer term storage in garage. Heck some of the stuff you can get off AliExpress now is dirt cheap and would easily do the job of a general purpose NAS.

Hi! It’s a super interesting and well explained project, great! 😎 I would like to make a similar one but for a different application... Could you advise me how to do it? I would like to connect a powerbank, obviously with solar panel and inverter, connected to arduino to measure the external temperature and humidity and also I wanted to insert a 4g module to let me transmit data on my mobile phone wherever I am. Do you think it’s possible? Thank you very much 🤓
@OMGTheCloud2 ай бұрын
That sounds like a fun project! Solar-powered ESP’s with deep-sleep mode can run forever on a small solar panel, waking up to report their sensor values every 10 minutes or so, i have several that have been running for years! The last bit, using 4G, may be difficult. Are you planning to place a sensor in a very remote area where Wi-Fi would not be possible? If that is the case, I would suggest long-range radio communications, such as LoRA (I have a couple of these too; they talk to each other over 3km apart!).
@AlexssioАй бұрын
@@OMGTheCloud unfortunately in that place I have no wifi signal available, that’s why I thought of a module with sim card, however thank you for the reply 🤓

So I have plex up and the NFS share is available to add libraries. But when I scan, it shows Plex scanning each Movie (..,TV show, Song) then doesn't add any media. I know the share is good on the server side because I have another instance of Ubuntu running plex (not in docker) with not issues. This seems like a permission problem but I'm pulling my hair out. Also I'm only able to run NSF v3 on the server(NAS), is there a way to force v3 on the container or does it matter?

it depends on your build. It might be better in some scenarios in order to pack and saturate a machine for efficiency, and to improve scalability.

Not likely. We're lining up the magnets to get the MagSafe charger to align correctly with the coils for optimum charging. Can i run traefik outside a docker swarm node to acess the services in docker swarm?
@OMGTheCloud2 күн бұрын
Hey there, you certainly could! This would change your configuration a bit though, as you would have to add these external services in as a "file provider". I'd be happy to do a video about this, as I have been working with this myself recently. Let me know if that would be helpful. Once you learn how to work with file providers, you can have a single Traefik instance that can literally route and proxy traffic to anything!
