The steps have been touched superficially. It would be great if the steps are explained similar to that of the 2D Homogeneous embankment dam. The way to import the water table has been done directly. Some examples can be made where "tailings dam" seepage, seismic and stability analysis has been presented in detail. It would be a great help. Thank you.

This is definitely a positive improvement. However, it doesn't seem fair that, despite purchasing a perpetual license, we are required to pay for updates whenever a new release like 9.1 or 9.2 is introduced. It's reasonable to charge for major version upgrades, such as moving from version 9.x to 10.0. But interim updates, like those within the same major version, should be accessible without additional cost for perpetual license holders. This would better align with the concept of a perpetual license and enhance customer satisfaction.
@itascasoftware3 ай бұрын
Thank you for using ITASCA software and for your valuable feedback. We’d like to clarify the distinction between perpetual and subscription licenses. Perpetual products are exactly that-perpetual-and historically, they’ve received bug fixes but not new features. Major upgrades for perpetual licenses occur on a release cycle of approximately every three years, with the next major release being Version 10. The summation of all the Version 9 point releases will comprise Version 10. Subscription products, on the other hand, offer continual access to the latest developments throughout the subscription term. With a subscription license, you benefit from ongoing updates, including both major and minor features, as they’re developed. What has changed is that we are now releasing the next major version incrementally, making each point release available to subscribers as soon as it’s ready. When Version 10 is fully available, those who prefer perpetual licenses can then purchase Version 10 to gain access to all the Version 9 point-release features. Additionally, we now offer a maintenance plan for perpetual license holders, which combines the stability of a perpetual license with the flexibility of a subscription. This plan grants perpetual license holders access to all the latest technology released to subscription holders during the term of the maintenance plan. If this sounds like something you'd like to explore, feel free to contact us at [email protected]. And once again, thank you for choosing ITASCA Software!

Not just for 3D models, but being able to use regularly performed critical state triaxial testing to help calibrate the models like we do with NorSand will be so helpful. how can I calculate average, minimum and maximum block volume from 3DEC 5.20?
@itascasoftware9 ай бұрын
To do this, you could write a FISH (or Python) function to perform a bubble (or comparison) sort by looping through all of the blocks in your model, checking each block's volume, via the built-in function block.vol(...), and saving the value to a min or max variable depending on how it compares to the previous block volume. While doing this, sum up all the block volumes and divide by the number of blocks looped through for the average. This is a good type of question for ITASCA's Software Forum (forum.itascainternational.com) and you can always check with our Technical Support team here: www.itascacg.com/contact-itasca/software-support-request. In 3DEC version 7 and greater we have added multi-threaded FISH functionality which can work with data associated with model elements (e.g., blocks) as lists and then you could just query for the min, max, and average values.

Would you clarify why the extrusion contains the rotation about axes by default?
@itascasoftware Жыл бұрын
Previously there was an extrusion icon to switch to the side view where the rotation icon is now. The new Sketch UI added a view plane dropdown (front, side, top, and bottom) to the Sketch menu. The front view plane (XY) is the default and a good orientation for revolving around the z-axis or x-axis. The conventional extruder works best from the side view. Essentially we're making some changes to the UI as we work towards even more powerful extrusion and meshing tools.
@sameeplamsal8579 Жыл бұрын
@@itascasoftware So, there is no difference between the 3D extruded from the sketch and the one obtained from the building block? Further, where can I find the unit setup section?
@itascasoftware Жыл бұрын
@@sameeplamsal8579the Sketch and Building Blocks are two different tools for mesh creation available within FLAC3D. Whereas the Sketch tool allows you to quickly draw a section view and extrude it out-of-the-plane, Building-Blocks lets you snap together and manipulate blocks into forming your final model. You can also use a 2D DXF as a starting point when creating the 2D profile in Sketch. The Sketch tool can export a model directly to the model pane or it can also export the model to Building-Blocks should you want to modify the mesh some more (e.g., tapper the end blocks of an extrusion at some angle). You can learn about to use consistent systems of units (of measurement) in FLAC3D here: docs.itascacg.com/itasca900/common/docproject/source/manual/program_guide/modelformulation/systemofunits.html?highlight=units. @@itascasoftware Thank you. But I still didn't understand the significance of rotation about axis while extruding the sktech geometry? Should I not bother about this and just give offset value to make it a 3D? I am using FLAC 3D V9.
@itascasoftware Жыл бұрын
@@sameeplamsal8579, the rotation about an axis is only necessary if you want to form a revolved solid mesh (think symmetrical cone for a stock pile or a cylindrical tower or a vase). But for a simple linear extrusion (into the page) switch the view to "Side" and specify the depth and zone resolution along the extruded axis. See docs.itascacg.com/itasca900/flac3d/extruder/doc/manual/sketch_pane/ops_in_extrusion_view/opsinextrusionview.html?node2761. There is also this example (uses older UI, but go to Side view and will be essentially the same): docs.itascacg.com/itasca900/flac3d/zone/test3d/TheoryAndBackground/FactorOfSafety/BenchExtrusion/BenchExtrusion.html?node113. We will work on providing a new tutorial example that helps to walk through this process.

Thanks for your question. We do not currently have the SCLAY1 constitutive model available in FLAC3D and I do not see it available via our UDM Library (www.itascacg.com/software/udm-library). Also, Python is not inherently set-up for creating user-defined constitutive models currently. A few options here are (1) see if the soft-soil creep constitutive model (docs.itascacg.com/itasca900/common/models/softsoilcreep/doc/modelsoftsoilcreep.html?node3640) might be useful for your case - requires the creep option or (2) use the user-defined material model option to create a custom constitutive model using C++. Templates are provided for the latter and you can learn more here: docs.itascacg.com/itasca900/flac3d/docproject/source/options/cppplugin/writeyourownmodel.html?node3603. With FLAC2D, automatic meshing is built-in. You can import a DXF to help with model construction or use the available drawing tools to draw your model and then you can mesh it - all using Sketch. Refer to the chapters (in the video description) that discuss "Model Building in Sketch" and the "Example Demo". If you have FLAC 8.1, you can also export your model to FLAC2D.
