Sword vs knife always interesting, because in popular ninja medias the heroes often using smaller weapon than the villains. Like in Shinobi series game and Naruto (Naruto always using small Kunai, while evil Sasuke using Shirasaya sword).

Are there crows under that suits or what is that screeching ?
Something I need to work on. Love it, but can't get too close.

Kendo has the same problem as fencing. They need to make these weapons heavier and more robust. Force the competitors to actually employ swordsmanship instead of jukesmanship

稽古 = Keiko, which is what practice is called in kendo and many other martial arts. It literally means "to consider the old".

This is the final of the All Japan. That first men point really shouldn't have been called.
@danielmaciver5307Ай бұрын
Kendo doesn't have slow mo feedback for a reason. Ippon is not based on purely if it connects or not. The Japanese commentary discusses this and makes it clear it was still valid
@echopapacharlieАй бұрын
@@danielmaciver5307 "Ippon is not based on purely if it connects or not." But it very much is. If that weren't the case, plenty of brilliantly executed strikes in the All Japan would have been called ippon, even if they hadn't connected. The only reason Kondo's men uchi was ippon, was because shushin thought it landed, and the fukushin just followed. I'm not advocating for video review. I'm just saying we have hit the limitation of human judging. And let's acknowledge and accept that limitation, instead of coming up with convoluted reasoning like, "the sen and the timing were perfect, blah blah blah."

Agreed. For me this was a huge mistake for an All Japan Championship final, which is the most prestigious title one can get in Japan.

Somehow I'm reminded of playing street hockey with the girls from the field hockey team in high school. Shin bruises galore, which made going into my karate dojo later that day even more interesting.

It can be laughable but in a realistic sword vs sword scenario, most encounter would end with a well placed stab so you'd guess that it was not about swinging and swinging and jumping and clashing swords but mostly about patiently wait for your opponent to make a mistake

What's with the screaming? I always thought it was suppose to inform the opponent of your attack but they are screaming at each other after the exchange...
@lewismcdermott3024Ай бұрын
The kiai after the strike is both an element of expressing zanshin (so trying to sell the cut to the shinpan) but also a psychological element - if your kiai can unsettle or otherwise psych out your opponent just enough so that they flinch or make a mistake then you've got an opportunity to win.

Most of the grand masters of this are old farts who have internal zimmer frames in their hakama and can't cut through a plate of jello.
@RichardLeStrange-j3o2 ай бұрын
I've seen many of these demonstrations during my 18 years In Japan and these old farts couldn't cut their way out of a paper bag As to the comment praising their being able to make the "whooshing noise", any sword with a hi (groove) does that automatically.

This is amazing to watch. A real gem. One comment though: that Ueshiba didn’t have (or didn’t have many) students that practiced Kendo, that’s not correct. I won’t do a list, but anyone can check this and see that many of his students were kendoka.
