There’s some debate over if this is true for every g8 or just the 2009.5+ models. But on mine if you put it in manual mode and turn traction control off it will stay in 8cyl mode. You can also buy a OBD plug in device to disable it, or a more expensive tuner like HP tuners to tune it out. Or tear the engine down and do a physical AFM delete with a new cam, then you will have to tune it. Only thing AFM is good for is fuel savings, I got almost 30 highway before I disabled mine. But it’s not worth that cost. Will foul your spark plugs and can destroy your engine if a valve gets stuck in the collapsed position.

I know your car was only 4 years old at the time of this video, but AFM is not the greatest thing GM ever did. I've done a lot of research that shows overtime that it can cause lifters to wear out and fail. Also there are issues with oil consumption. I do appreciate you doing this video to demonstrate what the system shows in Engineering Mode when AFM engages and disengages. In the new vehicles they call it DOD. Delivery on demand. I don't know if the engineers have corrected the before mentioned issues in the newer vehicles, so I don't want to get anyone upset or worried. Just do your research. I purchased an '09 G8 GT on Memorial Day of this year with only 47K miles on it. I just used a tuner this evening, and the first thing I did basically was turn off AFM. Some have noticed a slight increase in MPG with it off. Others only noticed 1-2 mpg drop with it turned off. It also depends on how you drive, but I wanted a big V8, and I want it running on all cylinders at all times. The powers there when you need/want it. LOL.

My G8 GXP has a "Security Lockout Active Vehicle Data Mismatch" showing up on the radio screen. There's also an icoon on the dash with a car and lock that goes through it. Nothing powers on when I turn the key. Has anyone here dealt with this issue? How do you fix it?

hi, my 2009 g8 gt all of a sudden started to overheat as soon as the warning on the gauge went all the way hot i pulled over and called a towtruck. next day open the radiator cap and coolant is below the core. added coolant car started but the idle sounds and feels different. so a friend put a scanner and it gave us a "P1258" and also said that it on protective mode. and when i looked up the trouble code it said that its either the coolant temp sensor or the thermostat? Please Help.

AFM will activate without cruise control. Just have to be light on the throttle
