So much amazing tutelage here! You even considered both lyrical possibilities (as I have seen what is printed in the lyrics can vary slightly from what is actually sung - listener's discretion, lol).

I assume that you have heard the less complex versions sung by other singers including previous Nightwish singers and can appreciate the depth that Floor brings to this song.

I enjoyed the technical analysis. I'm sure Floor would too. She's so passionate about singing. She's so well trained. Things you can't train though are stage presence.. personality.. appearance.. being able to bring out this kind of power throughout a whole set. I was there in 2013. Still the best performance for me to this day. And got to meet Floor once. A humbling human being by being so humble. Her presence is amazing. I'm so glad Nightwish gave her a chance. Floor is the true voice of Tuomas' mastermind 🙌

There's so many good female singers on this planet But only one is near the SUN.... From a deep growl to a Soprano with 4 octaves.....yes she can do all what you want......in any genre First Time i saw her was with After Forever in Holland during a festival in 2005 Then i met her 3 times here and there... She's so humble and a very down to earth person That's why i love her so much

Hello Janneke, greetings from UK I am not a singer, I just love Floor and Nightwish This was a fantastic breakdown of the technique used by Floor in this song, the best I have seen and I have seen hundreds of reactions to this song from other vocal coaches. They have always taken the 'helicopter view' of what is happening, but your video helps anyone who wants to actually sing the song. Fantastic! I also loved your gestures whilst you were singing, I could follow precisely what you meant Very well done 😊

Can you comment (or even make a video) about the cover by Yannis Papadopoulos? Is he using the same techniques you describe here or is that yet another technique to get somewhat similar results?
@ColumbastaАй бұрын
A great tour de force by Yannis. Love the guy & saw him live with NW at their Ziggo Dome '22 concert. His GLS version is the perfect example of what Floor so majestically avoids: making it sound way too technical. Singing to impress would be a somewhat uncharitable way to describe it.
@zbygniewprlwytzkofsky6614Ай бұрын
My thoughts as well, together with an analysis of Dan Vasc, who stands emotionally closer to Floor than Yannis I think.

31:45 Was there supposed to be a link in the description to the video that explains the distortion technique?
@jannekemeessensingitwithjaneАй бұрын
This Ghost Love Score analysis was the first video that I posted for you guys. Very cool to read that you like it! I will be going into further detail on distortion, creaking and grunting techniques during an analysis of Stricken by Disturbed. This video will be uploaded very soon.🙏Stay tuned!🙏
@MikkoRantalainenАй бұрын
Superb analysis and tutorial! This was easily the most detailed analysis of her singing I've ever seen. Your mic was clipping quite a lot around 12:30 so maybe reduce the mic preamp power a bit in the future and compress the audio in post production if needed.
@VivK-RealАй бұрын
So good analysis!!! As you probably know, there is sooo much to hear!!! "Yours is an empty hope" ( live Wembley/Mexico City 2015) "Slaying a dreamer' live Buenos Aires 2018 and from the newest album (no live) "An ocean of strange islands" Hope to see you taking a deep dive in them 😊

Anyone here after Janneke's GLS analysis and sing-through? You sing beautifully, your colouring and frasing is very precise and delicate. In this rendition I experience a different person than in the Fleetwood Mac version. That one is so bare, lonesome, in the pain of a person lost. Your embellishments take away that fragility, and show the main character more balanced, maybe reminiscent but not so much suffering. Don't know if that was your purpose!
@NickBR57Ай бұрын
Excellent. Floor explains in less detail but a more "listener perspective" in her own video about this song so it's good to hear how what she explains is translated into practice. Yes, "of the world" not "afterwards" Floor sings "tears" - the caption is "thee" which is what Tuomas wrote. Floor changed it (On a side note, when it gets to "time to never hold our love", which Tuomas wrote, to me it makes more sense as "time COULD never hold our love".) I'd like to hear you go through Romanticide or Dead Boy's Poem...

The first time I saw Ghost Love Score - years ago now - I thought it was something special, but didn't know why. I'm musically illiterate and didn't understand what I saw. Overtime, and watching various analysis videos I came to understand how complex and technical this performance was and how Floor's physical presence, stage work, narrative and emotional intent was built on a foundation of high quality musicianship (same is true of all the guys on instruments). I think this is the best analysis video of Floor's skill and technique, and is a must watch is you love this song. Big thumbs up.
@benegesserit9838Ай бұрын
indeed. love it
@jannekemeessensingitwithjaneАй бұрын
Thank you very much! And even though this video takes up 43 minutes, it would take so much longer to cover the whole spectrum of skills one would need, next to the singing technique, to be able to make a performance like this one. Floor is truly amazing at what she does, and she fits Nightwish so perfectly.❤

Great explanations! I used to have classical training and I really feel like I'm in front of my teacher back again ... Very clear, & efficient , very on point (the singing on vowels 😅, that was very hard to me at the time, but it does help so much!)... I enjoy your video. It's a real free knowledge that you share here, thank you!...You deserve subscribes more than anyone else (people just mainly says "wow" about the song, that's so boring in the end, for we all have ears and eyes).... Thumb up! ☺

Wow that was brilliant. This performance has a special place in my heart and it's great to learn about the techniques in such understandable terms.

Greatest vocal analysis ever! Or in Dutch: lang niet gek! 😁Floor should definitely see this!! Apart from the ton of info and you actually singing along, I just love your hilarious depictions of various techniques. The Pigtailed girl, The Tummy Ache curbing and the VHL "wheel" 12:06 😂👍 The most beautiful part of Floor's performances tho is the one thing that can't be reproduced. It's quite obvious and kinda hiding in plain sight: Floor's physique and raw natural talent. No amount of training will ever suffice to reach "Floor level", save perhaps for one other singer with comparable physique and natural talent: Irene Jansen, Floor's sister.

He Janneke, thanks for the wonderful, detailed explanation. It makes me appreciate Floor’s ability even more. You’re Dutch as well, aren’t you? Janneke is such a typical, beautiful Dutch name.

this is an extremely difficult song to sing.. you have to know everything to sing, pop, rock, metal, opera... Floor knows it all and that's why only she can sing it. she has incredible breathing control and strength in her voice.Floor is a wonderful singer, the female Freddie Mercury that class.she has an incredible power in her voice.

More, it is the only real breakdown of this song to this day, all other professional reactors, even the Charismatic Voice, do not even come close to it (too much hassle I think). Further: Janneke is the only reactor to this day that gets away with skipping both Emppu's solo and the interlude! She must be Dutch!
