Do yourself a favour and hear the difference when flipping the phase, when using headphones and speaking or singing into the d:facto.

What microphone stand do you recommend for the SV33? One for studio recording, one for the desk. I bought the mic because of you! Love your videos, thanks sir.

I don't find it particularly fussy. I use a solid K&M for studio and a Rode boom arm for the desk but it's mounted on a book shelf near the desk, so no desk thumps. Glad you got the mic. Merry Christmas.

Considering that Sennheiser 431 is a pretty expensive microphone that capsule looks MIGHTY CHEAP!! are you sure that is a genuine Sennheiser and not a copy coz that does not look right to be fair?

This looks like a very finely made microphone to be honest, the build quality looks very solid and the finish looks very smooth

Gotta be honest I would not be caught using that PG on stage for nothing 😂 I am surprised how little in sound quality difference there is between these 2 considering the enormous price difference 🤔 the handling noise is absolutely horrendous on the PG though

When you go back over to Rockbottom please pick up the AKG D33O-BT to test out, this was the touring microphone choice of ABBA back in the day and there is no other reviews on it on KZbin and it would be most interesting to hear your thoughts on it

350 has that peaky top end after 12khz (like rode nt1) and when you sing loud enough, its goes more crazy. And plosives is out of control, windclownnose all the time must be on.

Enjoyed that very much - i'm glad that such a fine optic has a Custodian such as yourself. Not a lens that i have... but you've not managed to put me off the (remote) possibility. Cheers and best wishes from New Zealand.

I bought a couple of fake beta 58a’s back on 2009. They sounded very close to the real ones. I knew this because we had singers who brought their own microphones and they sounded very similar to mine. The blue bands, on the fakes, fell off fairly quickly. They also had a faint smell of petroleum. The capsules looked only slightly dissimilar to the real ones. The durability was good. I no longer own it. I left it at a place just before the pandemic, and I did not want to go back over there to retrieve it. It only cost me 15$ a mic. So I wasn’t out too much dough. They always sounded a bit muddy on my baritone voice. I prefer a brighter sounding electrovoice or senheiser, to give my voice more clarity.

That echos my own experience with the fakes. The fakes act more like Audix microphones in that the drop off as the lip-grill distance is increased is much more dramatic. Real Shures have a predictable fall-off. But at normal and fixed lip-grill distances, they seem almost identical.

I've got two fakes from Ali; they were sold as "high quality" and "top quality" copies. The two fakes sound the same for me and these are the most open sounding dynamics I own (almost like condensers). Once I rented a real Beta 58A to compare (at least I hope that it was a real one) and the fakes were more open than the original, although with slightly less bass. And the fakes produced more handling noise.

I've used them all. The Beyer V70 has a very rich sound but is less versatile-I'd say it's more suitable for professionals. The Shure Beta 58A is a true workhorse, perfect for any environment! As for the Sennheiser E945, I sold it because I didn't like it. Are you sure your Beta 58A is genuine?

Is the D:facto way better than the beta58a ? and is the feedback nog a problem with a d:facto or is that that the beta 58a better is in feedback ?

Been using a beta 58A for a year- I have a deep natural chesty voice, but sing in a tenor/ alto range: the beta 58A does add color, where I can really get to the resonances I try to bring out in my vocal, and can go in close for the quieter/ deeper notes. Also, the dip between 5k to 7k helps with sibilance for me. In a live situation, it rules those others :)

If I was mixing you live in concert, my preference for your voice with these three microphones would be the e945, V70d, and then the Beta 58a. However, of the “common” brands/models, the cardioid e935 would be the first microphone I’d hand you. In a concert environment, I like the way the Sennheisers give the voice a nice lift in the sibilance frequencies without actually increasing sibilance. I get a nice presence without the edginess. The Beta 58a is a microphone that I don’t feel is right for your voice. It’s right for some voices, but just not yours. This is not at all uncommon with highly-trained voices where waveshapes look more sine-wave instead of saw-waves. I think my favorite stage microphone for your voice would be the Telefunken M80/M81. (The M81 requires corrective EQ boost, but the microphone is so clean that it’s a non-issue). Your voice responds much better to a large-diaphragm dynamic, such as the Telefunken M80/M81, or Beyerdynamic M88TG, or Heil PR35. All that said, if you were fronting a high-spl rock-band with an out-of-control drummer and lead guitar player, I’m probably handing you a standard SM58. Different horses for different courses. Of the Shure Beta line, my “go to” microphone is the Beta 57a instead of the Beta 58a. It’s subtle, but the Beta 57a has more of the high-end “air” that seems muffled with the Beta 58a. But it’s a better stand microphone than a handheld microphone.

"A completely new cartridge meant to mimic the old, but it will sound different." Plain English translation: "We cheaped out on production which 99.9% of buyers won't notice, but to the 0.1% who do notice, we're letting you know so you can't sue us." The old one really does sound better than the 58A. Much more bass and just sounds smoother.

I have been looking for a dynamic mic. that will be good for our female vocalist live performance. These three mics are tested and Beta 58a and Sm 58 are both ok,...but the old Beta 58 is a Winner for her voice.( her voice have a boost 3000K) Beta 58 sounds warmer than the two others is my opinion....Happy for this mic.

I can say with confidence that this is a fake microphone. The biggest problem is to purchase the original. There are many signs of how to distinguish from a fake, one of the main ones is checking by serial number on the Shure website. In any case, you recorded a review for a fake. Don't compare it with other microphones, it doesn't make sense.
@AntonBrowne

I have just scrutinised the microphone - bought from an official UK retailer - and I can say with confidenece it is genuine. Why do you say 'with confidence' it is fake? From the Shure website... There is no serial number on the SM58 microphone nor on most Shure microphones. Nuff said.
@alexmegavolt9010
@alexmegavolt9010 19 күн бұрын
@ The serial number is on the box. You can register it on the official website if it is genuine. There are several characteristic signs of forgery on your microphone at once. There are no marks (with paint or marker) on the capsule from above, the pins are not gilded, the plastic at the base of the pins is not engraved, even the color of the case looks like it is not original. There are good quality fakes, but not in your case. There are many videos on this topic on the Internet, take a look.

One thing about the brightness of the Beta58A, is that if You have it on 4 backing vocal singers, that you’ld like to keep in check with some higher ratio compression, then the cymbal bleed from the drums can be awful!! Like insanely harsh and nasty.
