Thank you for sharing your experience I moved to H-town in 2003, I planned my move for a year (from TN) prior to moving, to anyone planning to move, these are the questions you should ask yourself: Why are you moving to the city? I moved because I knew there were better opportunities in Houston than my hometown, I actually researched where I could take classes and corporations in Houston that I would want to apply to in the future What do you need to make your move easier? Income. I didn't feel comfortable moving without a job so I made sure there was a job waiting when I arrived, I didn't get behind on any bills and had enough money in savings in the event of an unexpected expense (car problems, etc.). Where in the city are you going to live? The geography of the city your moving to is important because it will affect you standard of living, in Houston you will need a reliable vehicle, I would not suggest anyone move here with the expectation of relying on public transporation , for the 1st 3years I lived in an apartment around the corner from my job, in the event I had car problems or there was bad weather I was in walking distance, not only that I saved on gas.

Question... I live In NYC and you know how it is over here when it comes down to rent. 40x the rent which is about 5k a month you have to prove even if the rent is $1300-$2000. Is it the same over there in TX? I wanted to move to Dallas and I see thats the application fees differ from the what it is over here n NYC. Will it be a hassle when it comes down to proving and providing the pay stubs? Because currently I do not have pay stubs. I'm an independent contractor. Thanks for the information by the way. <3

To be clear, Do not come to Houston if you do not have a job in place, or something that they will consider to be transferable, remote, or an offer letter I see a lot of people go homeless this way Also, don't expect them to consider savings as a way for approval. They need to see some kind of employment

Why’d you move there

I'm a nigerian born and raised here in houston. Im so glad to see more and more blacks moving to houston. But honestly Id highly recommend for women to carry firearms or at least get self defense training and or have 1-3 guy friends you can call asap.
