Very well done. Most enjoyable, in an almost macabre way. I *just* remember that Australia. 'The moving finger writes, ........... &c'

Sydney is now an overpopulated shit-hole compared to what it once was. It was finally killed off in the 1980’s when Hawke opened the doors to the bloody Chinese and look how they have destroyed the city and made it an unaffordable slum.

Great video! Thanks! Trams were before my time but I think my grandparents met on one as I believe my grandad was a tram guard for a little while back in 1913-14!

My grandfather bought an O Class (# 824) in '56, plonked it on his property at Lurnea, converted it and lived in it until his house was built. As a kid, I recall that one end was a chicken coop and the other was a bedroom for my aunt. The middle was workshop/storage. I have photos of it in 1986 just before the historical society craned it away for their museum.

Another CPH rail motor, No.27 but this is *NOT* a train, it is a *single rail motor unit.* For a "train", you need at least two, and up to 4 units(though generally 3 units is the norm).
@neilforbes416Ай бұрын
13:20 CPH-4 of the "Tin Hare" CPH-class. The number just ahead of this one, CPH-3 is the actual prototype unit, then came 1, 2 and the others. A strange arrangement indeed!

10:06 I write this at 4:38pm on the day, 10 years on from the *DASTARDLY DEED* that closed this station in the face of *MASSIVE, NEAR-UNIVERSAL LOCAL OPPOSITION* on Xmas Night, 2014. Such a despicable deed as this would *NEVER* happen in Sydney!

8:21 a CPH-class "Tin Hare" rail motor awaits passengers on the outward or inward-bound platform(depending on the angle from which the photo was taken). The rail motor class was introduced between 15 and 16 years before this photo was taken.

What is often not realised that during the first, second world wars the railway station was the last location families saw their sons go off to war.

Wonderful Social History Thank You Les. Mum was born in Caroline Street Redfern in 1913 and lived there for five years before moving to Marrickville, Caroline Street seems quite upmarket now.

There are many high-rises being built in Redfern now. People live in houses, not crammed into units.

Hey, what about Kingston train station. Opened somewhere in the mid 1880's as there is also the heritage listed Kingston butter factory just near the station. Both iconic history.

I grew up In Alexandria. There were three things in most residential streets. A pub, a lollie shop & an SP Bookie. Everyone had false teeth and rarely lived past 70. The cover picture of Alexandria Primary looks like a mental asylum.

Those hordes of well dressed workers, eg Pymble at 12:10, have all but vanished. I remember, not that far back either, when Wahroonga (nicest station in Sydney with its flowerbeds) had trainloads of men in suits reading newspapers travelling to and from the city but you rarely see one now. Look what they have been replaced by. Also the station names were once well signposted but now have those silly little orange nameboards. Every chief bureaucrat likes to change everything to leave his mark.

Great video. I always loved the coloured symbols displayed on the destination roles on the Sydney trams, which was quite unique to that system. Other Australian tramways that used similar type colour symbol destinations were Newcastle, Maitland and Broken Hill. The Little Coogee destination shown on a 1956 picture 5:55 later became Clovelly with the same symbol display.
