Hippos are powerful with their bites underrated! Gorillas overrated! They don’t use it in combat and useless to defend themselves. They’re not predators or a threat to predators with their bite. They don’t really encounter hyenas in the wolf and it’s a good thing or their would be very few gorillas left. A silverback would be practically useless against a pack of hyaenas. They’d distract him at the least while picking off the babies and females. And with no claws or natural ability to fight these predators, the silverback would fall victim to the hyaenas also , especially if there were a pack of more than a dozen or so. The hyaenas are afraid of Male lions for a good reason. Not the females and would abuse any gorillas period

If you’re being bitten by a bear, then you’re already on the menu. Same with a hyaena. One on one, I’d rather fight a hyaena. No chance against a 1500 lb or even a 900 lb bear. But if it’s just literally suffering 1 bite, I’ll take the bear. Hyaenas are the only ones known to break hippo bones when their at a carcass. Legendary powerful jaws, not stronger or bigger than a bear, it’s just the way GOD made these things. Freaky creatures, they eat everything, heads, tails , bones and all , because they can. Bears don’t do that , neither do lions or tigers or anything else on land🤷🏼‍♂️

They have a stronger bite force and are more successful hunters than lions (lions actually steal and scavenge more than the spotted hyena) but that does not make them stronger, as seen in the result of an actual fight
