The TD4 you 'inherited' from me had similar problems with gutless midrange that turned out to be the MAF. The smoke would indicate a misfire so could be a mix of several faults.🤔

@@steverayner1331 I remember the MAF change.. This is flat and hardly accelerates, the smoke is unburnt fuel and makes my eyes sting.. It seems better tonight. Can't get into the engine diagnostics, I told it that it was a 2003 BMW 320D and got into most of thr car but not the engine. Tried it as a Freelander, it listed engine ecu's but wouldn't connect..

That sounds like it's misfiring Mick. Try investigating the injectors next. Project Nigel has a very similar problem with his 75 and he did a few videos on his investigation. Tom Force usually has good known working used injectors on the shelf for about £25. Hope you get it sorted. I'd be really surprised if it was anything serious, the M47R is incredibly robust.

@@lucythemoggy1970 that would be ideal but I had to wait for parts for months for the Skoda as I couldn't find them and then when I did I was skintbso had to wait. I do bits here and there on the Trabant as that's just a long term thing. The 207 slowed things down a bit but after the Rover I'm not buying anything else until I have made progress with the others. The Wartburg only needs a day's work to sort all the brakes, they work but need the calipers rebuilding and the boots have perished and the rear shoes need reclining, rear wheel bearing and see if the rear hub is bent. The little 107 might get sold as is, and yet to see with the Rover.. using it for now but more and more issues are coming to light, and issues mean money...

Turbos rarely fail on 75 diesels. I'd check the PCV valve, if no change, try disconnecting the MAF, check intercooler pipes as well. Does it idle smoothly?

@@split_pin It starts and idles well, no smoke or anything even when you have your foot flat but a fluttering noise like it's restricted and in normal drive it can't push past it.. no kickdown at 2000 rpm unless it's in sport then it kicks down and over 2220 rpm pulls well, it's a gradual smooth increase as it boosts not a sudden push. It's sooty down the back of the engine and you can smell fumes in the car. No management lights and sounds fine other then the stiffled sort of sound at full throttle.. let it off it doesn't change the speed but changes the sound.. I haven't opened the bonnet yet as it was cold and dark when I got back..

You love it Mick. 😅 Trying to sort my keyfob out at the moment. Paid £80 for new keyfob and new key still not locking and unlocking car. Took it to locksmiths near me was not interested as someone else had cut the key. Also no barcode so could not program key to car. Still looking?

@@barthomer1000 that's not good, I was lucky both my keys work on the Silver one, one of the gold ones keys works can't remember if both do. I was gonna say the read the frequencies when cutting keys then remembered that's the chip not the remote..

There are plenty of cheap ones online, can you not get a new board with a barcode on it or does it now work like that..? I remember getting a new remote board for a mini and couldnt do it at home..

@@Mickhanic-garage Not sure never had this problem you take the remote central locking fob for granted till it packs up. Under the driver's dash there's a ews module it has a barcode on this I think they need this barcode to compute with the ecu to program the keyfob. As I thought I paid for a new keyfob and circuit board plus new key cut new battery but it was a second hand circuit board as I was told new ones are not available anymore.

I have a real soft spot for older Skodas. I’ve had about 10 old and new but my favourites to this day are still me Favorits. Tough was old boots they were - got an M reg in 2001, so it was 6/7 years old - had 104k on the clock and was absolutely mint inside and out - ran it for a few years as a daily driver and I believe it’s still going strong somewhere. It was rudimentary for sure but why they got their reputation I will never know. I’d trust that car over any similar era Ford, Vauxhall, Austin etc.

Very typical problem with the KFW/KFX 1.4i engine. Had to do the same repair with our 206, same cylinders as yours. If I ever buy another car with this engine, I would change the HG as a matter of course, especially if there are overheating issues as the HG are well know for rotting and the heads for warping. Make sure the head is flat and the cylinders are the correct height above the block.

They usually start leaking oil on the left front corner and leaking down front of engine in time the gasket blows that's common on the tu engine probably best to get the head face skimmed to make sure it dosent blow again

@@MegaReddevil71 that's the plan, oddly this wasn't leaking anything externally and there is no pitting on the head that I can see so far, the gasket had dissolved..
