@IvanGOrtolanАй бұрын
Don't worry, now they killed the apps altogether since end of 2023... what a crappy company.. Fortunately the reverse engineering efforts paid off and it's still possible to install the old apps on a a6300.. but it's really annoying

A tip for Sony users.If you want to shoot long exposures using this remote ,make sure you set Drive Mode to Single Shooting. If you have the Self Timer switched on it will stop the long exposure setting in the remote from working and will only take a short exposure,1/10th second or faster.

Recent versions of Darktable natively support MIDI controllers now. No need for an intermediary "translator" software anymore. So convenient.

Cascable Pro is able to stream video to the Zoom app on my MBP however no audio from the camera, which I need to I can remote the camera with audio. Any luck getting audio from a camera to work with Cascable Pro ?
@DallinTech5 ай бұрын
I don't think it's possible to get the audio from the camera, whether using Cascable or Imaging Webcam or any other software. I think that's a limitation of hooking up the camera via USB.
@SeattleCoorain5 ай бұрын
@@DallinTech Thank you for your reply. Reading more online forums seems to confirm your suspicion that the WiFi link I am using from my Canon R8 to a MBP-m1 laptop hosting the Cascable app does not contain any audio track information. Why camera manufacturers would design it that way is a mystery. The silent film era ended 100 years ago. For the past many decades 99% of video comes with an audio track. If you export the video file off the camera it contains an audio track. The bandwidth to include a modest audio track is trivial ... and yet sending live video from a DSLR camera over any link leaves the audio stranded at the camera. Yes, I know the pros hate native in camera audio, and for good reasons, except that post production they can use even a bad in camera audio track in FCPx to sync multi-cam video. I am using a decent external shotgun mic that sends it's audio into the camera body. For my purposes: filming live political events as a volunteer for non-profits it works fine. In these use-cases video without audio is pretty useless. I have a pair of Sennheiser EW100 wireless link audio devices to throw at the problem. It is just frustrating that the clueless camera industry is stuck with 100 year old thinking regarding video streams - eh ? Stay safe. I subscribed to your channel, as others should because your content is excellent.
@DallinTech5 ай бұрын
I agree that it's dumb to not include an audio track. If you find a good workaround or alternative solution in the future, please put it in a reply here for others.
@DallinTech5 ай бұрын
I reached out to a contact I have at Sony and he explained that the omission of audio (at least for Sony cameras) was due to a hardware limitation. Older Sony cameras did not support UVC/UAC (USB Video class and USB Audio class). However, the latest Sony cameras added support for UVC/UAC, so you can use the audio from the camera when using it as a webcam.

What USB C dock are you using for your monitors?
@DallinTech7 ай бұрын
I don't actually have a USB C dock. I primarily use my side monitors in place of a USB C dock, since they each have 3 USB-C ports. On the back of my primary monitor I have a USB hub, but it connects with USB A. Here's a link to that: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B8783HJZ

Great tips! One thing I have noticed is that I often get complacent with my phone for pictures, so if I had a tip to add it would be to get out your nicer camera more if you have one. While it is nice to use your smartphone every once in a while to capture a moment, busting out your mirrorless or DLSR camera usually makes you more intentional about the pictures you take; combine that with the better lens and you will almost always get a better shot than you will with your smartphone.

@DallinTech10 ай бұрын
I have a link to the Amazon listing in the video description. The monitor first came out in 2016, so they're hard to come by and priced higher than they probably should be.

Where did you find monitors with only usb c inputs?? I have a similar setup but with DP and HDMI and the auto switching works great meaning I never have to plug or unplug those cables.
@DallinTech10 ай бұрын
The LG Ultrafine 4k 21.5" was built as a collaboration between LG and Apple (at least that's my understanding) back in 2016. Back then it seemed like USB-C would take over and be the one cable to rule them all. I wish that would have materialized into reality, but it didn't. But the monitors actually are a great fit for anyone that uses primarily a Macbook. For your setup, how do you handle switching peripherals from computer to computer? Do your monitors have two USB upstream ports?
@TheClumsySpectre29 ай бұрын
@@DallinTech oh wow what an interesting backstory, I'd not heard of that before. For peripherals I have a simple USB switcher which can be operated with IR or a button. It's not quite seamless but does avoid having to replug cables which I always worry will wear out the ports

You should probably just take down this video, or make it private. Sony is killing the website where you can get these apps, real soon now. And, because the ONLY way to install them is through said website, the apps will be completely unavailable. Sure, one could load them on one's camera and hope one never, EVER let's the battery completely die. But, well, we all know that will eventually happen, so why bother to become dependent on any of those apps. Everyone should just buy a physical intervalometer.

personally i would only install the timelapse app and open memories tweaks to unlock continuous recording. be cautious what apps you launch on your camera. i almost shit my pants when i thought i soft bricked my a7RII. I tried the BetterManual app which did not let me exit the app via the menu button since it was developed for the a5100 and then always launched when booting the camera. you can only access the menu when plugging in your pc via usb which was my only way to recover from this state.
