wow! you're so good at centipede. that's one of my favorite old school video games. what strategy did you use while playing this.

@robertcroxtonjr.7623 The way the game was designed to be played, straight shooter em up. No trapping the Centipede or "blob" techniques to stay on the same board. You have to spot changes in the game as it develops, some of which are score based and some how you've approached the game. Too heavy handed on the fire button and it will crush you no matter how good you are!

To guy playing. So once you turn it over you don't get extra lives every 12,000 points, right ? If that's the case. Then how is the workd's record score 16,847 million something ?

To guy in video . If centipede highest score is more than 1 million points. How come you couldn't get more than 1 million points ? Because it wasn't touranment settings or ?

@cooler1854 default settings are 12k extra lives and 'easy". Twin Galaxies are 12k extra lives and "hard". The difference? Absolutely nothing when playing above novice level.

@@cooler1854 Easy/Hard settings have to be set inside the machine by the arcade operator, or yourself if you own the machine. I can`t even remember the difference it makes zero difference to a game when i play it. This video is set in Arcade Club, Bury, England and i`m pretty sure these are the default "easy" settings. I live about 2 hours away from that place. I`d last played Centipede on a cabinet around 1985 with a high score of 906k. I next played on one in about 2016 at Arcade Club, realised i still had the game immediately so i decided to get my own cab, purchased one and had it shipped over from America. Within 6 weeks i`d hit my goal of the 999,999 on the high score table. (it rolls back round to zero with 1 more point, there`s also a lack of memory in the game which causes an extra life bug when rolling over the score resulting in your next extra life could be up to around 1 million points away ) After achieving that about ten times i then set my sights on a high score, currently 1,785,743 on twin galaxies "hard" settings which would be good enough for top 7 of all time on that list. The difficulty of just getting a score recognised on there puts me off the dedication to go higher. I still have the machine and might play it maybe 3 times a year and could drop a million game anytime with a bit of luck. @dinktyke But still don't understand why you couldn't pass 999999. It seems like it was a kill screen. Every time you crashed you got extra life. Like it was fixed so you couldn't pass the board. So it was fixed to not pass 1 million with roll over. If you put settings on all hard settings instead of all easy would it say on top high score 99999. But a turn over so you could continue playing from 0 points ?

@stevenhoog1 You should check out the games I've uploaded on my original machine with a trackball. Played conservatively it really is easy up to around the 550k mark for a highly skilled player.

I miss watching Ted on the oche. I know what he did and chances are he’ll never be seen on telly again, but he was enjoyable to watch, whether he was playing well or having a pop at the crowd.

No. This is a very poor attempt at correcting the extra life rollover bug trying to ensure you continue to get extra lives. All to do with the number of scoring shots between 996k and 1 million points.

Played this in 2022 at that Stranger Things Store in Aventura, Florida. It was easier to play with the trackball compared to playing it on a laptop emulator a few years ago, allowed me to better move around and dodge the spiders easier. Had to LOCK IN with this one because of the spiders jumping around.

Yooooo, that's some amazing gameplay right there! I was born in '90, but I played a computerized version of this and other Atari hits on Windows 95/98. Even as an "old game" in that time, I thought it was ridiculously entertaining, and had so much fun playing!!! My strategy was identical to yours, but I never made it nearly as far. I struggled not to get trampled by the spider whenever the little heads hit the bottom and started cycling back up. Always lost sight of the spider or flea and ate it hard🤷🏾‍♀️ 🤣🤣🤣. Anyway, thanks so much for posting. It brought back some fantastic memories!!!!! 🤝🏾👏🏾🤗
