Dublin, Ohio's rain-drenched parade is made to look like one of the most depressing public events ever thanks to the stark, black-and-white imagery and clever editing focusing on bleak, joyless people who appear to be questioning the very nature of their pointless existence. My kind of existential angst-ridden parade, actually.

It’s actually about Salford not Manchester, Manchester has as much to do with the song as Dublin or anywhere else really.

This song is about the City of Salford near Manchester, not Dublin or Ireland!

wow wow wow, what a great video, damn that is quality...great singing and playing, but the video makes....whats Doc Marten all about? isnt that a Uk thing?
@paulgiggs992 жыл бұрын
Yes we know but it was made famous by Luke Kelly of the Dubliners and is applicable to all working class cities where the common man has had to break his back in order to make a pittance

Relearn the words as written by the masterful singer and writer Ewan MacColl, notably, the first line is: "I found my love by the gasworks croft" Why do people not look up the words rather than sing them as butchered by the Pogues?
@HerveBoisde7 жыл бұрын
As a tribute to the Pogues?

WTF is a 'gasworks croft'? Do you realise how disparate these two things actually are??

From Wikipedia: The first verse refers to the gasworks croft, which was a piece of open land adjacent to the gasworks, and then speaks of the old canal, which was the Manchester, Bolton & Bury Canal.
